Who We Are

Marion Cares is a faith-based non profit agency in Marion, Iowa serving students and families in the Linn-Mar and Marion Independent school districts.

We are unique in the way we deliver programming, as our programs are housed within the communities we partner with and serve.  Marion Cares strongly relies on our volunteers, local churches, and community partners for the ongoing success of our programs.

Our Mission:

To share Christ’s love with the families in our community.

Our Vision:

Marion Cares creates opportunities to share the love of Christ through safe, accepting interactions with compassionate people who inspire foundational success.

What We Do

We accomplish this through seasonal projects, after school program, and a summer program.

With the help from local churches, businesses, and individuals, we make sure families in Marion have what they need as the seasons change.  Some of these projects include Pack Back to School, Trunk-or-Treat, and Angel Tree Gifts.

SHINE is our after-school program hosted on site in the neighborhoods we serve.   SHINE stands for Seeking Him In Neighborhoods Everywhere.  In SHINE, we seek to meet social, spiritual, and academic needs of our kiddos. We have four different Rotations:

Team Time, TxT Time, Brain Time, and STEM Time.

We also serve a hot meal, courtesy of our volunteers the Supper Squad, before the kids go home.

Son Seekers is our summertime program. At Son Seekers, we have three main components. We exercise our minds through STEM projects and Rotary Readers, we exercise our hearts through Vacation Bible School and TxT Time, and we exercise our bodies at the park and splash pad! We receive our lunches from one our partner organizations FLY.

We are seeing God do amazing things in our community through Marion Cares, and we would love for you to join us.  We are currently looking for volunteers for both our SHINE and Son-Seeker Programs, and we have two main ways volunteers can get involved.  We call them Sidekicks and Supper Squads.

Sidekicks invest time with the kids to foster positive one- on-one relationships. Sidekicks show care, develop trust, and inspire greatness in these kids. We ask our sidekicks to commit one day a week. Programming during the schoolyear lasts one hour, and two hours in the summer.  We provide you with some training so that you can be a successful mentor and feel comfortable walking in day one.

Supper Squads prepare, serve, and share in a meal with our kids!  You can sign up as a family, friend group, church circle, or as an individual. A kitchen is available on-site and tableware is provided.  Meal guidelines and menu ideas can be found on our sign up sheet! Supper Squads can sign up as often as they are able.

To sign up for these volunteer opportunities, you can contact us directly by phone or email or by using the Signup.com button found on our website and Facebook page!

We are passionate about the children and families of this community and we see God impacting lives every week.  Please join us in caring for the people of Marion.
