Who We Are

Matthew 25 uses these tools to empower people to transform neighborhoods: Cultivate Hope creates a healthy food culture by:

  • Growing chemical-free produce for families, schools, and institutions¬†
  • Educating with hands-on learning and mentoring
  • Advocating for policies which encourage growing and accessing healthy food

Neighborhood Building revitalizes communities by:

  • Encouraging neighbors to dream of possibilities
  • Organizing sustainable reinvestment and sound public policy in targeted neighborhoods
  • Providing a shared network of tools and resources

Youth Empowerment mentors youth by:

  • Encouraging self-expression through the arts
  • Reading with students
  • Collaborating with youth and adults on educational opportunities

Matthew 25 was founded to help meet the needs of the communities of the Taylor and Time Check neighborhoods. Following the flood of 2008, Matthew 25 was a partner in Block by Block, which brought volunteers and resources to the community to rehab 25 blocks and about 270 homes. Now our Urban Farm is being created where houses cannot be rebuilt. In 2013 Matthew 25 moved to its new, permanent location, helping to redevelop the Kingston Village neighborhood of Cedar Rapids

What We Do

The mission of the Matthew 25 is to empowering people to transform neighborhoods. We do this through three main building blocks: Youth Empowerment and Education, Cultivate Hope (changing the food culture), and Neighborhood Revitalization.
