Volunteer: Riders Club: On Call from Home

"Riders Club answering service.  Are you calling about a ride which has already been scheduled?"

Riders Club is the car someone no longer drives.

Riders and drivers can be active 24-7 which means there are times they cannot find each other.  Since the office is only open for scheduling from 9 am to 3 pm, Monday through Friday, we need someone to answer the phone outside office hours and on Holidays. You choose when you can answer phone calls.

Work from any location that has a phone to help drivers, riders and the office!  Our phone system allows us to forward phones to any number.  We can even adjust the call destination remotely!

Our Ride Management System (RCA RMS) gives you all the information to help others get back on track.

You will need web access and a computer.  Printing out the master manifest allows you to be mobile without using the internet on your mobile phone.  A common evening involves 0 to 5 phone calls.

Helpful skills include:

phone communication, comfort with simple computer usage, and some knowledge of local roads.

Help from home!  and make a huge difference in other people's lives.

Volunteer: Serve the City 2026

Serve the City, hosted by Hope City Church, is an annual community outreach event where hundreds of volunteers come together to demonstrate the love of Jesus through practical acts of service across the Cedar Valley. From landscaping and painting to serving local nonprofits, schools, neighborhoods, and families, volunteers unite to make a tangible difference while building stronger relationships within the community.

Serve the City offers more than 50 volunteer teams with a wide variety of opportunities to serve throughout the Cedar Valley, allowing volunteers to choose a project that best matches their interests and abilities. Responsibilities vary by outreach but may include landscaping, painting, cleaning, organizing, packing and distributing supplies, serving meals, assisting local nonprofits, supporting community events, and encouraging community members through acts of kindness. Volunteers are expected to arrive on time, work collaboratively, follow their team leader's instructions, and help create a positive, welcoming environment while serving others with excellence and compassion.

No prior experience is required, just a willingness to serve and make a difference in the Cedar Valley community. Opportunities are available for individuals, families, small groups, and teams, with projects suitable for a variety of ages and abilities. Many outreach locations are accessible to individuals with disabilities, though accessibility varies by project.

Volunteers will receive a free **RED Serve the City T-shirt** to wear during their outreach. We ask that volunteers wear comfortable clothing appropriate for the weather and closed-toe shoes. Some outreach projects involve outdoor work, so bringing work gloves and any requested tools is encouraged when applicable. Light breakfast snacks will be available during the kickoff gathering at either **RiverLoop Plaza in Waterloo** or **Hope City Church – Cedar Heights Campus**. Lunch will be provided following the event at both the **Hope City Waterloo Campus** and **Hope City Cedar Heights Campus**. Additional outreach-specific details, including any special instructions or materials needed, will be communicated by each outreach leader prior to Serve the City.

Volunteers can sign up for this Hope City Church event at www.myhopecity.net/servethecity and a leader will contact them directly.

Volunteer: Help a Neighbor with a Homemade Lasagna

Lasagna Love is a global grassroots movement powered by thousands of volunteers cooking and delivering lasagna to neighbors in need. Our purpose is simple yet profound: feed families, spread kindness, and strengthen communities.

As a volunteer Lasagna Chef, you choose your level of participation—once a month, several lasagnas a week, or anything in between. You also decide how far you’re able to drive to deliver and whether you can accommodate special diets. Volunteers purchase the ingredients and cook the lasagna, and the Lasagna Love team handles the matching. We also provide online training to make you comfortable in your volunteer role.

The only requirement is to be 18 years of age (or volunteer with parental supervision). Volunteers are able to decide how far they're able to drive to deliver.

Volunteer: Become A Big (Mentor)

BBBSMV urgently needs mentors, with 140+ local youth currently waiting for a Big.

One caring adult can change a young person's life. BBBS Littles are 20% more likely to enroll in college and earn 15% more over their lifetimes than their peers. Our mentoring programs connect volunteers with local youth to build meaningful relationships that help them gain confidence and reach their full potential, and the impact goes both ways. Bigs often say mentoring brings fresh perspective, a sense of purpose, and real friendship to their own lives.

Volunteers commit to meeting with their Little 2–4 times a month for 12 months, about 45 minutes per visit. Like any relationship, trust doesn't happen overnight. This steady, manageable rhythm gives it the time and space it needs to grow. With five flexible program options, Bigs can mentor in the way that fits them best. Bigs also receive a weekly email with activities offered by BBBS and local area partners.

Program Options

Community-Based Program: Bigs and Littles connect out in the community, during evenings or weekends. Matches can take advantage of activities through BBBSMV and community partners (TBK Sports Complex, YMCA, Figge Art Museum, and more).

School-Based Plus Program: Bigs and Littles meet mainly at their elementary school and have the option to meet in the community, especially at BBBS facilitated events — the best of both worlds.

School-Based Program: Bigs meet Littles exclusively at their elementary school during lunch or recess, giving Littles a consistent, caring presence during the school day.

Big Duos: Two adults mentor one Little together, sharing the experience and the commitment. Duos have the same flexible meeting options as our other programs (community, school, or both).

Group Mentoring: A group of 3–4 adults mentors a group of youth together, meeting at a consistent location.

Volunteer: Virtual Opportunity: Boost Your Community's Volunteer Engagement!

Connect Your Neighbors With Local Volunteering Options – Right from Home!

When we know more, we can do more.

Community Compass is a crowdsourced platform that connects volunteers with their community and each other. We’re building a national directory of nonprofit organizations, mutual aid and grassroots networks, service clubs, and more. Because volunteer groups come in all shapes and sizes, our Community Pages include smaller, less formal organizations alongside established nonprofits.

We’re looking for enthusiastic contributors (like you!) to help us update and enrich Community Pages and Organization Pages on Community Compass. With some research and your curiosity, you can help your neighbors quickly find nearby nonprofits, mutual aid groups, service clubs and more – making it simpler than ever for everyone to make a local impact.

Community Compass contributors have already helped us identify over 3,600 ways to volunteer in more than 380 communities in the US!

What You'll Do:

Be a Contributor: Conduct quick, simple online research to identify active service clubs, mutual aid groups, and upcoming volunteer events in your community.

Be a Fact Checker: Enhance your community's page on Ways to Connect by ensuring the information is current, accurate, and inviting for potential volunteers.
