Hospice Vigil Volunteer

Provide the invaluable gift of presence during life's final moments as a Hospice Vigil Volunteer with Suncrest Hospice. Vigil Volunteers offer compassionate companionship to patients who are actively dying, ensuring that no one has to face the end of life alone.

Volunteers may sit quietly at a patient's bedside, hold a hand, read aloud, play soft music, share comforting conversation, or simply provide a peaceful, reassuring presence. Vigil Volunteers also offer support to family members by allowing them to step away briefly to rest, eat, or tend to personal needs, knowing their loved one is not alone.

Vigil visits take place wherever a patient calls home, including private residences, assisted living communities, and skilled nursing facilities. Visits are scheduled based on patient need and volunteer availability, and volunteers are contacted when a vigil is requested.

No medical or personal care is provided. All Vigil Volunteers receive specialized hospice training and ongoing support from the Suncrest Hospice team to help them feel prepared and confident in this meaningful role.

Requirements:

Being present at the end of life is one of the greatest gifts you can give. Your quiet presence can bring comfort, dignity, and peace to patients and their loved ones during an incredibly meaningful time.

Many of our volunteers choose to serve as both Compassion and Vigil Volunteers, allowing them to support patients throughout their hospice journey—from meaningful companionship visits to providing comfort during their final hours.

Hospice Office Assistant Volunteer

Support compassionate care behind the scenes by becoming a Hospice Office Assistant Volunteer with Suncrest Hospice. Office Assistant Volunteers help our hospice team with administrative tasks that allow staff to focus more time on caring for patients and families.

Volunteer responsibilities may include:

Assembling admission packets and informational materials

Filing and organizing documents

Preparing mailings and volunteer materials

Making copies, labeling, and light office organization

Assisting with special projects and events

Helping maintain a welcoming office environment

What you’ll provide

Office Assistant Volunteers provide valuable support that helps ensure patients and families receive timely, compassionate service. While this role does not involve direct patient care, it plays an important part in the overall hospice mission.

Requirements

Complete hospice volunteer training, background check, and onboarding requirements

Dependable, organized, and comfortable working in an office setting

Respectful of patient and organizational confidentiality

Hospice Compassion Volunteer

Make a meaningful difference in someone's life by becoming a Hospice Compassion Volunteer with Suncrest Hospice. Compassion Volunteers provide companionship and emotional support to patients facing a life-limiting illness, helping ensure they feel valued, heard, and never alone.

Volunteer visits are based on each patient's interests and needs and may include:

Friendly conversation and companionshipReading books, magazines, or devotional materialsPlaying cards, games, or listening to musicTaking a walk or sitting outdoors together (when appropriate)Sharing hobbies such as crafts or puzzlesProviding a comforting presence while caregivers take a short breakOffering emotional support to patients and families

No medical or personal care is provided. Volunteers receive comprehensive training and ongoing support from the Suncrest Hospice team.

Patients may live in their own home, an assisted living community, or a nursing facility. As a Compassion Volunteer, you'll have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships and bring comfort, connection, and joy to those during one of life's most important journeys.
