Opportunities From: Volunteer Iowa

There are multiple opportunities to lend your talents to help organize the Alzheimer's Association signature event.  The Walk team meets once a month to coordinate the efforts of identifying sponsorships, team recruitment/retention, marketing logistics and more.  

The Alzheimer's Association is building an Event Team to work with the Chapter staff to increase awareness of community fundraising events on or before the Longest Day of the year, June 21,2019.  Team members will assist wth marketing the Longest Day to the community as they recruit and register participants from clubs, businesses and organizations to create various activities they would like to do such as running, golfing, cooking etc. and turn it into a fundraiser to fight Alzheimer's.

The Alzheimer's Caregiver support group is an open gathering of individuals with common problems and needs who come together to share their feelings, thoughts and experiences in an effort to better cope with the role of care-giving for a loved one with dementia.  The facilitator needs to have had experience with dementia as a family member or health care provider.  They must have good listening skills and effective communication skills in creating a safe environment where participants' thoughts and feelings are valued and group members are treated with fairness, equity and respect.  The Alzheimer's Association provides initial and ongoing training to facilitators.  A commitment of at least one yer is expected.

The Sioux City Alzheimer's Association needs facilitators and co-facilitators for support groups that meet once a month on Tuesdays. The Facilitators coordinate and lead an open group of caregivers and their loved ones who come together to share their feelings, thoughts and experiences in a combined effort to better cope with and manage the shared problems of dementia in a safe environment. The Facilitators will receive training and support from the Alzheimer's Association staff.
