Become a wish granter from any county in the state of Iowa to create hope, strength, and joy for children with critical illnesses.

You will be partnered with a wish granter for each wish to meet with wish kids and their families to brainstorm ideas and help determine what their wish will be. While Make-A-Wish Iowa staff is making these wishes a reality, wish granters will provide personalized items to celebrate the wish. Once wish planning is completed by Make-A-Wish Iowa staff, volunteers will help celebrate the child and the wish being granted.

Full Circle’s Telephone Recovery Support (TRS) program is designed to provide individuals an extra layer of recovery support through a weekly phone call. During TRS calls, volunteers offer encouragement, information about resources, and a point of connection to help the participant maintain their recovery. This program is a great opportunity to listen to and support individuals in recovery!

Training is provided, as well as additional support to ensure the experience is meaningful for all involved!

Must be on site at the Recovery Community Center to complete calls.

Make a Difference in a Student’s Life

Join EnCorps’ STEMx Tutors program to virtually tutor math to middle school students who are under-performing in Foundational Math, Pre-Algebra and Algebra 1. 

As a volunteer math tutor, you prepare students for the rigor of high school mathematics and establish the foundational knowledge needed to pursue a college education that prepares students for a career in an increasingly technical world.

EnCorps STEMx Tutors make a significant difference in a student’s relationship with math: 86% of students who take part in the program increased their math scores in the 2023-24 academic year!

Choose When You Tutor One Hour, Twice a Week

The STEMx Tutors program is designed for busy professionals like you. As a STEMx Tutor, you commit to tutoring one hour, twice a week. EnCorps utilizes a 2:1 or 1:1 student-to-tutor ratio. 

As a 2:1 tutor, tutoring sessions take place for one hour, at the same time, twice a week between 12:00 - 5:30 p.m. PST. In turn, the 1:1 tutor, you will determine the day and time of your virtual tutoring sessions with your student

TITLE: Welcome Committee: Housing Set Up Volunteer

Each Friday in Assisted Living, we host a happy hour as a way for the residents to get together and socialize and enjoy each others company. LSI's Global Greens program reconnects former refugee farmers with the land as they build their new life in the U.S. Through Global Greens, farmers access space to grow food, learn more about U.S. agriculture, and start their own business by selling produce at our Farmers' Market and in our CSA.

Volunteer groups are a big help at the incubator farm in keeping shared spaces tidy and accessible so farmers can focus on their own plots of land and growing their businesses. Volunteers help with light maintenance and farm chores like weeding, clearing the area around the well, drying garlic, and other seasonal projects to help staff and farmers. Opportunities available Wednesday through Sunday spring through fall morning, afternoon, or evening.

LSI’s Global Greens agricultural programs coordinate land access, production education and business development training for refugees in the Des Moines metro who want to reconnect with the land.

Some refugee families want to grow food for home consumption. Thanks to partnerships with the City of Des Moines, community organizations and private landowners, we help connect refugee families to small garden plots near their homes.

Volunteer support expands staff capacity to support gardeners' success. Currently the greatest need is to fill water tanks at urban gardens near the zoo, Drake neighborhood, and near the fairgrounds weekly so gardeners have water for their plots. If you can get to at least one of those locations weekly, we'd appreciate your help filling the water tanks!

Once trained by staff, schedule is flexible and volunteers can help at a time that is convenient to them.

Assist with meal preparation, keeping food stocked (served cafeteria style), greeting clients, serving, and cleaning. Volunteers must wear closed toe shoes and head covering (e.g.: ball cap). Hairnets, aprons, and plastic gloves will be provided.

Why is mentorship part of the program?

Mentoring, at its core, guarantees individuals that there is someone who cares about them, assures them they are not alone in dealing with day-to-day challenges, and makes them feel like they matter. Ultimately, mentoring connects an individual to personal growth and development, as well as social and economic opportunity. 

Expectations

The mentorship experience starts with virtual meetings while the mentee is incarcerated.  Once the mentee releases to the community, the Circle of Support (2-4 volunteers) will decide if they want to continue meeting virtually or switch to in-person meetings.  This process will be supported by Seventh District - Iowa Department of Corrections staff to help navigate the transition. Mentors may decide to continue the mentorship relationship with more than one mentee but no more two mentees at one time.

As a mentor, you will be assisting participants in creating a “positive philosophy towards life.” You must help your mentees broaden their horizons. Frequently, what your mentees know of life comes only from past experiences in the communities where they grew up. The influences of peer groups make your commitment and caring essential.

Donation receivers would ideally choose one day to a week to consistently come to House of Hope and fulfill the position! This volunteer position allows for other volunteers to have consistent and comfortable assistance in working in the garage, sort donations more efficiently for our families and/or partner organizations to utilize them and allow easier distribution of the donations with more hands-on deck! The donation receiver would also work to distribute needs to clients in communication with staff.

No experience or education required. Must be 16 or older or accompanied by an adult.

Provide a special dinner for our Campus youth and staff

throughout the year. Plan to come to campus to enjoy the meal

and engage with the youth when it is best for your team/family

Our volunteers prepare the meal from 3:30 to 5:00, serve the meal to our guests from 5:00 to 5:30, and then clean up from 5:30 to 6:30. We have four chefs, each cooking one Sunday a month. They determine the menu and provide direction to our volunteers who help prepare the meal. We also have a volunteer leader each Sunday, who coordinates the volunteers with the work assignments to keep things running smoothly. They are joined by a pastor and youth helper each Sunday.

The shifts available each Sunday are from 3:30 - 5:00pm and 4:30 - 6:00pm, three volunteers are needed for each shift. 

The Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Program trains and supports community volunteers to advocate for a safe and permanent home for children in the child welfare system. Currently, the program is seeking volunteers from counties across the state to better serve local children. 

Volunteers come from a variety of backgrounds and receive training in topics including the juvenile justice system, social services, and child trauma response. Upon completion of training, volunteers are sworn into service by a judge. Once assigned to a case, volunteers regularly visit the child, as well as talk with the child’s parents, teachers, service providers, and other adults in the child’s life. After developing an understanding of the child’s situation, they write and submit reports to the courts, making recommendations about the child’s needs and best interests. 

Volunteers average between 5 to 10 hours each month on case-related activities. The hours are flexible with the volunteers able to set up most meetings according to their schedules, however, the court hearings are set by the judge. Program coordinators and fellow experienced volunteers, known as CASA coaches, are available for questions and assistance throughout a case.

We are a one-on-one mentoring program. To change the world one kid at a time, we need mentors! Can you give 30 minutes one day a week during school hours OR 2-4 hours per month on nights/weekends to make a life-changing difference to a child?

Are you passionate about helping others? Help out with crisis response on-call shifts and respond in-person to area hospitals and law enforcement centers! You can help make a difference by providing support and resources to survivors of sexual assault. Available shifts are 5pm until 8am the next morning Monday-Friday, on Saturdays and Sundays shifts are from 8am until 8am the following day, and occasionally, 8am-5pm Monday through Friday.

If you want to share your love of nature with the next generation, consider becoming a teacher-naturalist (TN) at Indian Creek Nature Center! TN’s lead students of all ages on field trips at ICNC during the school year on weekdays between 9am-3pm. You do NOT need to be a teacher to be a teacher-naturalist. TN’s onboard primarily at the end of August for fall and mid-February for spring. Training is provided and you must be willing to volunteer a minimum of 12-15 hours per month September-May.

The Salvation Army receives food truck deliveries once per month. Looking for able bodied person that can help unload truck.  We do have a ramp. 

LSI's Community Based English Language Leaning program empowers immigrants and refugees with numerous accessible online and in-person English classes led by knowledgeable, compassionate teachers. Participants gain language and social skills along with cultural awareness that enable them to quickly gain employment, integrate, and thrive in their new communities. LSI also has programming specifically for people over the age of 60 working towards their citizenship with extra support to foster community connections, improve quality of life, and work towards the goal of US citizenship.

How Volunteers Help:

Classroom volunteers assist the teacher in ensuring all students get the most out of class by helping with demonstrations, leading small group activities, working individually with students who need extra support, and more. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, volunteers at the Polk County Senior Center work with participants on a wider range of activities from English to art class to billiards tournaments.

Time Commitment:

Volunteers generally commit to one day/class per week for one session.

We are looking for someone that is good with a camera to attend some of our classes and events to capture photographs and videos for our organization.  Our programming involves martial arts, acrobatics, dance, and singing.  Someone that has a knack for capturing action shots would be best.  This project will involve attending a couple classes a month and our major performances/events.  There is no need to stay for the entire class, but getting clips of the class would be great! The next big event is a summer camp on July 23rd. 

Time commitment would be 2-3 hours per month.

We are looking for someone to help us create a professional training video for our volunteers. It will be podcast style with two people seated and talking about what to expect. Volunteers must have video production and video editing skills. One time opportunity, date and time are flexible around the volunteers availability. Maximum of four volunteers needed.

We have a special need for teen or adult volunteers to help watch children while parents study English and citizenship! Contact us for specific times needed. The center is a welcoming place where individuals meet new friends and enjoy conversation. When individuals come to the center for a tutoring session, time is allotted for individuals to converse with others over coffee and tea. Snacks or desserts provided by the center. During this time, students and tutors from all over the world engage in stimulating conversation, share stories or even bring in cuisine from their countries of origin. Many of our English-language and citizenship students also are parents or have childcare responsibilities, so valued volunteers help care for their children, allowing the adults to focus on their studies. Hospitality volunteers may help with childcare, food preparation and welcoming visitors to our Center!

Purpose/Objective:

Main Street Waterloo hosts more than 20 events throughout the year to bring the community together and celebrate downtown Waterloo. We are looking for leaders to Chair event committees and lead teams of volunteers in hosting fun and successful events.

* Act as a resource for nursing and health in the region across all business lines, working collaboratively with Nursing Network leaders and others to achieve the Chief Nurse Initiatives.

Nursing Network leaders recruit and support nurses and other health professionals across all business lines to implement strategic goals of the American Red Cross as articulated in the Chief Nurse Initiatives. The American Red Cross is divided into geographic divisions, regions and chapters for service delivery. Each division has a Division Nurse Leader (DNL) appointed by the Chief Nurse and the Director of the Nursing Network. DNLs appoint Associate Division Nurse Leaders (ADNLs) to support RNLs and to assist them according to the division's unique needs.

Responsibilities

* Proactively support and guide Red Cross units in volunteer recruitment, reception, retention, and recognition to build health professional capacity across all business lines and at all levels of the organization in support of organizational and regional priorities. Assist units in volunteer recruitment to reflect community demographics.

* Act as a resource for nursing and health in the region across all business lines, working collaboratively with Nursing Network leaders and others to achieve the Chief Nurse Initiatives.

* Establish a good working relationship with key leaders at the regional level (e.g., Emergency Services Director, CEO, nurse/health leaders in other business lines).

* Establish relationships with community partners (nurses and non-nurses) and maintain updated roster

* Coordinate meetings for regional nurses and other health professionals, engaging colleagues and partners as appropriate in support of the Chief Nurse Initiatives.

* Regularly communicate nursing and health-related successes (e.g., awards, media coverage, projects) to other Nursing Network leaders and through other communication venues

* Ensure that nurse volunteers enter their nurse-specific information in Volunteer Connection and submit all volunteer hours

* Submit all RNL hours in Volunteer Connection on at least a monthly basis and maintain an updated Volunteer Connection profile

* Complete quarterly metrics and annual Nursing & Health Leaders Diversity Survey

* Recruit and support Nursing Network Engagement Specialists as needed.

RNLs should recruit for and mentor their own replacements in consultation with RVSOs and DNLs.

The Recovery Services Client Care Program allows the Red Cross to rapidly meet disaster-caused needs by enabling clients to apply and receive financial assistance and/or community resources.

The Client Care Program Service Associate supports the recovery of disaster affected individuals, households, and communities by providing referrals, advocacy, and financial assistance through RC Care (case management system).

Responsibilities:

Conduct Intake by interviewing the client and opening a case in RC Care
Provide Financial Assistance to qualified clients.
Conduct Follow-up and Recovery Planning Services
Provide Internal Referrals
Provide Community Referrals
Assist with problem-solving and advocacy on request

Share your time and their talents with one of the oldest nonprofits in the Cedar Valley. We are looking for individuals who would guide the future of our organization by becoming an active member of our board of directors. Meeting are once a month on the first Monday of month at noon.

We specialize in offering licensed and accredited child care to working-class families who could not otherwise afford it. We provide child-care services for up to 100 children from nearly as many families. Families in Waterloo with children enrolled at Growing Minds are more culturally and racially diverse than those of any other private child-care center in the city. Moreover, we sponsor more financial assistance to families than other Waterloo facilities because a higher proportion of their enrollees qualify for it. Ninety percent of their enrollment consists of children from families that qualify for aid. This proportion is inverse from that of most other private child-care centers in the Valley. An important thing to know is that many of these families find our services essential for them to seek employment in the community and sustain a family income.

In 2023 we changed our name to Growing Minds Early Learning Center. This name change signifies the organization's commitment to empowering families, fostering educational opportunities, and transforming lives within our community.

Although our name has changed, our commitment to supporting low-income families remains steadfast. We will continue to provide affordable child care services that prioritize the well-being, safety, and educational development of each child in our care. Looking for a great way to stay active, get some fresh air, and cumulate those endorphins while also helping some homeless pups?! Dog walking is for YOU!

ARL Dog walkers provide enrichment and exercise to the dogs  throughout the shelter. As a dog walker, you will take dogs outside for bathroom breaks and exercise, providing them with a break from their kennel while they wait to be adopted by their FURever families!

Requirements::

Must be able  to handle medium to large size dogs

2 hours every other week

We could use dog walking assistance at our ARL Main campus at 5452 NE 22nd street as well as our DMAS Campus at 1441 Harriet St!

All of the City's boards and commissions play a critical role in public policy development, implementation and review for the City Council. The International Women's Club of Iowa City provides friendship, education, and support for women from many countries, including the USA.  One offering of the club is the teaching of English on Tuesday and Thursday mornings during a 10 week fall semester and a 10 week spring semester.  Classes are held in Iowa City in person.  The English Program Manager could use assistants to coordinate the English program as of this fall.   The coordination role you choose can be based on your talents and interests.  All of the following skills would be valued:  marketing of our club offerings, welcoming and orienting new teachers and students, planning and managing registration of students, management of our class scheduling and teacher resources,  answering inquiries about our programs, explaining the IWC offerings to sister agencies, preparing student forms and lists, and purchasing materials for the classrooms.  

The International Women's Club offers English classroom instruction to women from around the world both spring and fall semesters.   We need new female teachers for fall semester 2025 which begins in early September and ends in late November.  The classes are small (6-15 adult women) and many instructional resources are offered as well as support from experienced fellow teachers.  The hours are 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.  We are looking for women who have training and experience in English and/or ELL teaching.  It is possible to be a teacher assistant before teaching independently.  It is also possible to lead conversation groups if our class hours do not work for you.  You are welcomed to join our club now so you can get acquainted with other teachers and students at our fun 'English in the Park' events this summer.  Please contact us soon if you have interest.

We are looking for assistance providing meals for our monthly Wednesday evening gatherings, which occur the first Wednesday of each month.  Volunteer(s) would prepare the meal ahead of time and drop it off at our location prior to the start of the gathering.  We need to feed approximately 25 people- great opportunity for a group or business :)

  Dubuque Trees Forever has a small, flat trailer that we use to haul trees, equipment, mulch and/or water to our projects.

We are looking for a small group of people with a pick up and trailer hitch that can pull that trailer to our events and to help with watering, when needed.

King's Harvest serves a hot meal on Wednesday and Friday from 12:00-1:00pm and Saturday from 9:00-10:00am. Volunteers are needed from 11:30am-1:30pm on Wednesday and Friday and 8:30am-10:30am on Saturday morning to help with serving, checking in guests, clean up, as well as people to visit and share the love of Christ with our guests. 

King's Harvest provides a free Grocery Giveaway on the 2nd and 4th Saturday of each month from 8:30am-10am. Volunteers are needed by 8:15am in our grocery pantry. Assistance is also needed on Wednesday with organizing donations and filling grocery bags. 

King's Harvest is in need of volunteers to assist with picking up donations from various food banks, restaurants, and stores throughout the Quad Cities throughout the week. 

King's Harvest is always in need of assistance with light maintenance, building updates, as well as cleaning. 

King's Harvest operates solely on donations and grant funding from the community. Donations can be dropped off at the back door of King's Harvest Ministries 824 West 3rd Street in Davenport on Wednesday and Friday from 9:00am-1:00pm and Saturday from 8:00am-10am. Our fleet of delivery vehicles ensures that wholesome food gets delivered to recipient organizations. We rely on volunteers to clean out the delivery vehicles after each route and prepare them for driving the next day.

Volunteer Duties
- Preparing Table to Table vans for food rescue routes
- Fueling vehicles
- Miscellaneous facility duties (taking fridge temps, emptying recycling, sanitizing ice packs, etc)

Volunteers needed for a 2 hour shift between 11am and 3pm, Monday - Friday. 10am - Noon on Saturdays

When disaster strikes our neighbors here in the Quad Cities, Red Cross Disaster teams respond to provide comfort, financial assistance, and resources.  The number one disaster in the Quad Cities (and nationwide) is the single-family home fire.  When a family is displaced by a fire, they are likely to be scared and anxious...and our volunteers are there to help.  Our local disaster volunteers have also helped QC families impacted by flooding or tornado damage.  This is local assistance for local disasters, so no out-of-town travel is required. We provide free training to make sure you know what to do, and we send volunteers in small teams for their mutual safety and support. You decide what days and shifts you will be available "on call."   When you're "on call," our volunteer dispatcher will call you if there is a family impacted by disaster who needs your help.  If you want to KNOW you are making a difference when someone really needs you, this is the volunteer opportunity for you.
