Volunteers for this position would assist with general office duties. Additionally, volunteers will assist FOF's staff with housing assessments and paperwork.

We are in need of volunteers to help support our Drug Donation Repository. We recover unused medicines across the US that go unused in health care facilities and pharmacies. The medicines are inspected by pharmacists and distributed to clinics and pharmacies across the state that care for low income, underinsured and uninsured patients. 

We provide a clean, supportive, and flexible volunteer space and strictly follow all COVID-19 protocols. Scheduling is very flexible based on availability, weather, and donation volume. 

Volunteers are needed to sort incoming donations, organize donated inventories, and assist in the preparation of outgoing orders.

Driver will be responsible for running one delivery route (3 – 5 hours) once a month. Requirements include:

Volunteers can help with a wide variety of tasks including: Friendly home or care center visits; sharing stories, listening to music, reading to patients or writing letters.   Volunteers can help with caregiver relief, or caregiver socialization.  Spiritual needs can be addressed by volunteers by reading scripture or listening to hymns and praying with a client.  Hours and activities are flexible and work into YOUR schedule.

Purpose/Function: An Impact Committee will seek to understand the needs of the county/affiliate area to ensure alignment between those needs and our grants. The primary function and responsibility of the committee is to invest in nonprofits through the discretionary grant process. The committee will implement best practices in grantmaking, uphold trust-based practices, and reflect CFNEIA’s values in grant decision-making with the goal of maximizing the impact of those grants. The committee will work closely with CFNEIA staff to collaboratively achieve shared goals.

Actions of an Impact Committee for impactful grantmaking:

Membership: The committee shall consist of community representatives from across the affiliate area based upon key characteristics they might bring to the committee and include diverse representation across geographic location, age, gender, race, etc.

Term of Membership: Three years, renewable once for up to six years of continuous service.

Meeting Schedule: An Impact Committee will meet a minimum of three times per year and up to a maximum of eight times per year. In addition to the required meetings, hosting an event that celebrates community grantmaking impacts is highly recommended. Annual meetings will include the following: education meeting focused on grantmaking best practices, trust-based philanthropy, and/or community need assessment; business meeting; and deliberation meeting.

We are looking for local volunteers who are willing to transport blood products and supplies to our donor centers and area local hospitals.
We have a wide variety of trips, ranging from 45 minutes to 3 hours or more. We provide the vehicle and gas card to fill-up after each trip.
We utilize an online scheduling system which allows you to manage your own schedule.
The schedule of trips can begin as early as 5:15 am and can end as late as 11:00 pm, 7 days a week.

From May 1 through October 31 we are looking for individuals to unlock the Behrens-Rapp Station on First Street in Cedars at 8:00am on Saturday and Sunday mornings. The Behrens-Rapp Station is located between the Ice House Museum and the Little Red School. This building provides visitor information from May through October. This is an ideal volunteer opportunity for those living in or near downtown Cedar Falls that enjoy walking or bicycling.

The Cedar Falls Tourism & Visitors Bureau is looking for outgoing, friendly volunteers who like to visit with people to staff the Cedar Falls Visitor Center during the week or staff an information table during an event. Duties include welcoming guests; assisting with directions; and providing information on attractions, restaurants and things to do in the community.  

In addition, we are looking for volunteers who would like to help with events such as selling programs during the Iowa High School Football semi-finals and finals in the UNI-Dome in October and assisting with ticket admissions or score keeping during the Iowa 7v7 Football tournaments in the UNI-Dome in April and May.

Theater Attendant volunteers provide wayfinding, confirm that films are running correctly, and make sure that theaters are ready to welcome guests. This position will report to the Manager on duty. Responsibilities: -Ensure that the theater space is clean before and after a film plays. Cleaning may include tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, and replacing the trash. -Have basic knowledge of the history of the Varsity Cinema, membership, and other frequently asked questions. -Direct guests to their seats as they arrive for their film. -Confirm that films are successfully playing. This includes making basic checks on projection, sound, lights, and temperature. -Report inappropriate guest behavior to the manager on duty during the run of the film.

Literacy Kits are used at early childhood centers and schools throughout central Iowa to help students in kindergarten through fifth grade learn and love to read.

Our Literacy Kits were designed by experts to focus on the skills young children need when learning to read while, at the same time, diving deeper into the book and its themes.

Next, we will help you decide which book title you would like to purchase and how many kits you need. The cost is $8 per kit. This covers the cost of the book and the materials needed to make a kit. On average, volunteers can make one to two kits per hour.

Then, we arrange the pickup of your materials (or we can deliver). 

You and your volunteers then complete the Literacy Kit activity on-site at your business, home, church, school, club, etc. You can choose the timeframe for the activity, as well. We have an ongoing need for the kits. 

Next, you return the completed kits to United Way. Then we distribute them to nonprofits, child care centers, and after-school programs.

Nevada's brand new farmers market is now taking sign-ups for volunteers. The market takes place downtown on 6th street on Thursday evenings through August 31st. Volunteers will stand near the barricades at the ends of the street to let vendors in and out and answer questions to market goers. 

This position requires standing, some lifting, and being in the sun. 

There are 2 shifts available - 4p-6p and 6p-8p.

Love to plan and execute events? Want to help promote our historic downtown district?

Our promotions committee works to find opportunities to promote our downtown businesses. Sometimes this is through events that bring people to our main street and sometimes this is collaborating with other activities in town to promote visitors to check out our downtown. This committee member could also work with the organization's director to help with social media posts. 

This committee meets one to two times per month, on Tuesday evenings at 6pm. As an event approaches, more meeting times may be necessary. These committee members are also expected to be at the events they organized. 

No experience necessary. No heavy lifting required. We prefer a one year commitment, but hope you will enjoy it and stay longer! The value you will receive is helping business owners promote their businesses, as they cannot do it alone. You will also engage with other volunteers who share a common passion of helping our downtown grow. 

The City of Storm Lake is seeking artists interested in creating sculptures, memorials, statues, structures, murals, street art or other forms of artist expression to improve quality of life in Storm Lake.  The volunteer should include a statement of qualifications addressing their strengths with similar public art projects.

Volunteers who may adopt the planters include businesses, individuals, families, civic groups, churches and other groups.  Sponsors agree to buy, plant, and maintain the adopted planter over a 12 month period.

The Adopt-A-Planter application and agreement shall contain the names of any individuals who would assist the planter sponsor in maintenance and planting activities during the 12 month commitment. The planter sponsor must supply City staff with updated information should changes in contact information or volunteers occur.  The adopter or adopting group is responsible for the safety and well-being of volunteers at all times.

LSI's CSA is a way for Des Moines area eaters to support former refugee farmers starting their small business. Volunteers can help by getting the food organized and ready for pickup.

CSA packing happens on Mondays and Tuesdays throughout the summer. . Volunteers can also help with transporting produce to our pick up locations around the metro.

Volunteers also pack and deliver monthly food boxes year round to former refugee seniors to help alleviate food insecurity. This generally happens the third Monday and Tuesday of each month.

Could you assist Linn County neighbors in finding the resources they need?

The Ecumenical Community Center Foundation (ECCF) and its Helping Hands Ministry (HHM) are seeking volunteer receptionists.  Could you commit to a few weekday hours each week or every other week, perhaps either 10 to 1 or 1 to 4 ? 

ECCF's Helping Hands Ministry (HHM) needs help answering phones filing recently used client files.  People call to request help with rent, utilities, auto gas, and ID replacement.   We also assist with budgeting and guide people to many appropriate community resources.  

Could you assist people with their lifelong learning goals in a small computer lab?

Currently, CompuPlace clients with disabilities attend by appointment Tuesdays through Thursdays between 10 AM and 4 PM.  Most clients have cognitive, intellectual, communication, or developmental disabilities such as autism spectrum, Down syndrome, or traumatic brain injury. Some have dexterity-related disabilities that make it harder to use a computer.

The CompuPlace lab is currently unused on Mondays and Fridays. In order not to waste this resource, and in the spirit of inclusion, we seek to expand our services beyond people with disabilities to people who have been left behind in the age of information, technology, and the internet. In addition to people with disabilities, people with low incomes, seniors, and rural adults are too often on the wrong side of a gaping digital divide. We seek a reliable team of volunteers to staff the lab for drop-in availability to Linn County residents with learning goals.  Can you help?

At CompuPlace, we start wherever the student is. It is a place where abilities are identified and harnessed, where it is safe to guess, where learning is supported, effort is applauded, and success celebrated with gusto. This method is equally appropriate for learners with and without disabilities. 

CompuPlace clients are often working on communication, spelling and reading, math and money, problem solving, professional behavior, and general computer skills.  Some clients attend alone, some with group home house mates, and some in small and large groups.  Many clients play games or surf the web in order to learn the skills they need to improve their lives. 

The CompuPlace way encourages people to direct their own lifelong learning. There is dignity in learning, and there is empowerment in self-directed continuing education. There is so much to know, so much to “Ask Google,” and so much yet to discover, both collectively and individually.

This may include copying documents, sorting documents, folding documents, filling envelopes, applying postage, and delivery to a postal station.

Communication Assistants have some flexibility as to when they can do their assignment.  The assignment can be done at the LEC during our regular programming times of Monday afternoons and Thursday mornings or, if desired, depending on assignment, may be done from their home.

All volunteers are required to be interviewed prior to volunteering and to attend an orientation to our organization as well as an orientation to their specific volunteer assignment.

Are you someone who enjoys talking to a wide variety of people and doesn’t shy away from talking on the phone? Do you feel equally at home with new technology such as texting? While senior citizens still rely heavily on traditional methods of communication such as phones many are comfortable with texting also. Phone calls and texting are critical ways to get our message out to a wide variety of people who may be interested in our programming.  You will have the satisfaction of knowing that you were the person who helped someone find our organization and programming in addition to keeping them informed about future offerings.

Are you an individual who thrives on social interaction and the knowledge that you have helped senior citizens feel less isolated and alone through activities and resources? Do you enjoy learning about history and experiences across generations and social groups? Then you are a perfect fit for being a program host at the Life Enrichment Center.

Description:

Program Hosts are at all program sessions to which they have scheduled themselves to act as a host to senior citizens in attendance. Program hosts may be working alone, or ideally, will be working with a co-host. Program hosts arrive at least ½ hour before programs begin and are responsible for all set up for a program. This will include set up for refreshments (drinks and snacks), table and seating arrangements, sign-in sheets, and name tags. They will meet and greet speakers, if appropriate, and assist them with set up that may be required. Program hosts will meet and greet all attendees, assist them to sign in, find seating, and offer refreshments. Program hosts interact and socialize with attendees. Program hosts are responsible for tear down and clean up after the session has concluded.

Qualifications:

Program hosts must possess strong customer service skills and be able to work with a significant level of independence. They should be able to communicate well with a wide variety of individuals from various social and cultural groups. Program hosts should have the physical ability to lift, reach, carry and move objects under 10 lbs.

Times Needed:

Mondays 12:30 to 4:00, Thursdays 8:30 to 12:00. Volunteers have flexibility to choose the days and times that work into their schedules.

All volunteers are required to be interviewed prior to volunteering and to attend an orientation to our organization as well as an orientation to their specific volunteer assignment. Most volunteers will be with an experienced volunteer at least twice or until they feel comfortable with the assignment they will be doing.

Description:

The technology support volunteer will be responsible for one or more of these tasks based on the volunteeer’s skills and/or interests. 1) Assisting with developing and maintaining LEC websites and social media sites, or creating documents within a variety of computer programs. 2) Setting up spreadsheets, mailing lists and creating mail merge documents for sending out to our members. 3) Maintaining databases of information important to our organization.

Qualifications:

Technology support volunteers should have a moderately high level of ability and comfort with major computer programs such as Word, Excel, and Canva. The Road To Recovery Volunteer Driver provides people with transportation to and from their cancer-related medical appointments. Drivers donate their time to help people with cancer get the lifesaving treatments they need.

As a Road to Recovery driver, you can serve your community and help local people, provide support and encouragement, have rewarding one to one interactions with cancer patients, build relationships and save lives. Road to Recovery offers flexible scheduling, you drive as much or as little as you want when you want.

Volunteers choose the rides that work best for their schedule. Most rides are scheduled during the weekday between 7am and 7pm. The American Cancer Society asks volunteers to commit to a minimum of 2 rides per month.

REQUIREMENTS:

A workshop for Gems of Hope is dedicated time for you and your group to make cards, earrings, or bookmarks for cancer patients undergoing treatment. All materials are provided.

Our workshops travel! We have kits ready to go for businesses or groups to take with them and enjoy during a time of your choosing. This is a great team building activity and a great way to work out your creative mind. We've got everything you need from sign-in sheets to instructions.

Prisoner Visitation and Support (PVS) is the only organization authorized by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Department of Defense to visit any prisoner in the Federal and Military prison systems. The primary focus is on seeing those prisoners with an acute need for human contact -- those prisoners without regular visits, those serving long sentences who are far from home, those in solitary confinement and on death row, and those who are frequently transferred from prison to prison. Front office volunteers play a critical role in carrying out Prairiewoods' mission. Our guests come to Prairiewoods for many reasons, including attending a class, meeting, or retreat. Your duties will include greeting our guests, checking them into their event, answering the phone, or providing other administrative/office support as needed. Organize a donation drive as a group to collect items for our necessities pantry, which provides items for the people we serve through our Sioux City Immigrant and Refugee Community Services. Contact Anna Stokes to see what items are needed during the time you plan to host the drive.

Community Inclusion Club (CIC) is a non-profit that was created to provide/ facilitate socially inclusive opportunities for adults with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) living in and around the Iowa City community. We do this by hosting events once a month at various locations where people with and without ID meet, mingle and get to know one another. Ideally, this will result in people forming friendships, and in turn those friends will meet and communicate with one another outside of our scheduled event times. We realize that people with ID often lack opportunities to interact with their non-disabled peers in the community, and this club was founded to change all that.

Camp takes adult campers on many trips throughout the year and are in need of volunteers to help. If you would like to volunteer in our facilities department you need to be at least 18 years old or be accompanied by an adult. Any persons interested in volunteering in the facilities department will be required to sign a liability waiver. We have long term and short term volunteer opportunities. 

What to expect:

We have a lot of different tasks and projects and they vary from season to season. Tasks that we might need help with are:

Milestone Area Agency on Aging is looking for volunteers to delivery meals to local seniors from the Grant Senior Center. Volunteers would pick up meals from the Center and deliver meals based on set routes. Deliveries typically take between 1-2 hours depending on the volume of meals on a day. This is a flexible opportunity and volunteers are able to choose the frequency at which they want to help. 

We are looking for people who want to participate in bieng on a Unified Sports ( a branch of Special Olympics) basketball team. This is a team madeup of adults with and without intellectual disabilities (ID). We practice at Alexander Elemntary School on Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30 and our first competition will be on Februrary 11th. We need a ratio of three people with ID (athletes) to two people without ID (partners) and are short on partners. Please contact Tom Braverman if you are interested in being a part of this innagural team. More sports will follow in the coming months, so even if you cannot commit to the basketball team. we would gladly make you a part of future events. 

Meals on Wheels is dedicated to addressing senior isolation and hunger, delivering  the nutritious meals, friendly visits and safety checks that enable America’s seniors to live nourished lives with independence and dignity.

Sioux City has a need for more volunteer drivers.  Volunteers can deliver as many or as few days as they would like. Whether you are a Monday-Friday driver or only available a couple times/month, we can work with your schedule. Meal delivery takes approximately one hour, just before lunch. This is also a great team-building project, especially for local businesses!

Want to help us harness the power of technology to change the way we age? Connections Area Agency on Aging is looking for volunteers to help us facilitate the OATS-Older Adults Technology courses throughout our services area. With the OATS programming we will work to leverage technology to help older adults learn new skills, save money, exercise, and make new friends. Training for the program happens quarterly 1x a week for 75 minutes.

IowaCrisisChat.org is an online resource for emotional support, operated by CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank located in Iowa City. Since launching IowaCrisisChat.org in 2011, the number of chats and texts we receive has surpassed the number of calls we receive on our crisis hotline (over 15,000 chats vs. 10,000 calls annually for FY2020). People of all ages use this service to talk about a variety of concerns. However, the median age is 21 and 80% of chatters are experiencing thoughts of suicide.

Iowa Crisis Chat volunteers also answer chats from the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Volunteers learn a wide variety of counseling techniques and offer direct support to clients in need. Our training prepares people who have gone on to become therapists, social workers, teachers, lawyers, clergy, doctors, and even genetic counselors. Besides looking good on a resume, volunteering with CommUnity feels good! You get to make a positive difference in the world by connecting with people who are hurting. Even though this is a remote position, you will be supported throughout the process. We have been a volunteer-driven organization for over 50 years, and we have volunteers who have stayed with us for 15+ years because of our positive and supportive culture.

Requirements

Volunteers are supervised and supported by full-time staff members who are available during every shift. Supervisors are there to provide support and advice, and to handle any escalated situations that might require 911 contact.

Milestones Area Agency on Aging is looking for volunteers to help package meals at the Grant Senior Center. Volunteers would assist with assembling meals into containers and getting them ready for delivery. Hours of volunteer service would be Monday-Friday from 8 am-10/10:30am. Volunteers can choose the amount of days they wish to help with.
