Agronomy, Child Development, Civic Engagement, Clothing, Computer Science, Environment, Robotics, Food and Nutrition, Health, Home Improvement, Horticulture, Mechanics, Music, Photography, Sewing and Needle Arts, Veterinary Science, Visual Arts and Woodworking. 

We are looking for volunteers who are willing to lead or co-lead a 60-to-90-minute project workshop to our 4-H youth. 

Come and join us for an hour of creating Gifts of Hope for cancer patients all across Iowa. Our Gifts of Hope are handmade cards with an inspirational quote mounted with handmade earrings, handmade bookmarks, serenity stones, or serenity circles. A workshop for Gems of Hope is dedicated time for you and your group to make cards, earrings, or bookmarks for cancer patients undergoing treatment. All materials are provided.

Our workshops travel! We have kits ready to go for businesses or groups to take with them and enjoy during a time of your choosing. This is a great team building activity and a great way to work out your creative mind. We've got everything you need from sign-in sheets to instructions.

Volunteers will respond to the request when Madison County Emergency Management feels they have a situation where large groups of spontaneous volunteers are needed to respond. Volunteers at the Volunteer Reception Center are responsible for one or more of the following tasks:

– ensuring spontaneous volunteers are registered and accounted for. Volunteers would complete the paperwork provided by the Coordinator pertinent to the event. This could be in multiple stations within the county depending on the situation.

– staffing a post evacuation or disaster situation that will continue beyond 8 hours.

– staffing a phone bank to answer questions with prepared information provided by the Coordinator

– assist in registering people in a temporary shelter

Volunteers could also assist Emergency Management during local events.

Description:

This position supports the Regional Volunteer Services Department. The Regional Volunteer Relations Team Member ensures the successful execution of the Volunteer Workforce Complaint Process in the region. The role of the Team Member is to support and document the volunteer supervisor in managing complaints against the workforce they supervise, as well as managing the process for cases that are escalated beyond the supervisor.

 Key Responsibilities

Implement corporate Red Cross Human Resources and Office of Volunteer Services policies and

procedures.

Understands and articulates the importance of a fair and harassment-free workplace.

Explains appropriate Red Cross policies and procedures as related to Volunteer Relations during

Steady State including utilization of Regional Volunteer Workforce Complaint Toolkit materials to all

supervisors (employees and volunteer).

Conduct appropriate investigation, documentation, and resolution when complaint involves a

Volunteer.

Coordinates with and supports Human Resource Business Partners (HRBP) and ICE on complaints

that they manage.

Qualifications

Willingness to comply with Red Cross COVID-19 policies for in-person volunteer activities.

Experience with conflict management or mediation

Experience with employee/staff relations or HR management

Experience delivering training material or facilitation

Ability to work in confidential situations

Description:

The Regional Nurse Leader (RNL) is a front-line leader of the Nursing Network who partners with the local Regional Volunteer Services Officer (RVSO) to recruit health professional volunteers per regional needs. The RNL provides guidance on nursing and health matters and helps build the health professional network in the region. RNLs promote volunteer engagement and satisfaction across the business lines and work to achieve the Volunteer Services Chief Nurse Initiatives. The American Red Cross National Nursing Network is comprised of all Red Cross nurses. Nursing Network leaders recruit and support nurses and other health professionals across all business lines to implement strategic goals of the American Red Cross as articulated in the Chief Nurse Initiatives. The American Red Cross is divided into geographic divisions, regions and chapters for service delivery. Each division has a Division Nurse Leader (DNL) appointed by the Chief Nurse and the Director of the Nursing Network. DNLs appoint Associate Division Nurse Leaders (ADNLs) to support RNLs and to assist them according to the division's unique needs.

Responsibilities

* Proactively support and guide Red Cross units in volunteer recruitment, reception, retention, and recognition to build health professional capacity across all business lines and at all levels of the organization in support of organizational and regional priorities. Assist units in volunteer recruitment to reflect community demographics.

* Act as a resource for nursing and health in the region across all business lines, working collaboratively with Nursing Network leaders and others to achieve the Chief Nurse Initiatives.
* Establish a good working relationship with key leaders at the regional level (e.g., Emergency Services Director, CEO, nurse/health leaders in other business lines).
* Establish relationships with community partners (nurses and non-nurses) and maintain updated roster
* Coordinate meetings for regional nurses and other health professionals, engaging colleagues and partners as appropriate in support of the Chief Nurse Initiatives.
* Regularly communicate nursing and health-related successes (e.g., awards, media coverage, projects) to other Nursing Network leaders and through other communication venues
* Ensure that nurse volunteers enter their nurse-specific information in Volunteer Connection and submit all volunteer hours
* Submit all RNL hours in Volunteer Connection on at least a monthly basis and maintain an updated Volunteer Connection profile
* Complete quarterly metrics and annual Nursing & Health Leaders Diversity Survey
* Recruit and support Nursing Network Engagement Specialists as needed.

RNLs should recruit for and mentor their own replacements in consultation with RVSOs and DNLs.

The American Red Cross provides 40% of the blood supply to the country. The Biomedical volunteers are a critical element to carrying out our mission, their experience and onboard is vital to volunteer growth.
The Onboarding Lead will manage a Biomedical Volunteer Workforce Engagement team who initiate a relationship with new volunteers to the department. Disaster Health Services Team: During large disasters, you can use your professional skills as a licensed healthcare provider to deliver hands on care and education to shelter residents. Free online training will be provided and can count towards nursing continuing education units. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 10-14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required. Qualified licenses include RN, LPN, LVN, EMT, Paramedic, MD, DO, PA, NP, APRN. Only RNs have full scope of practice.

Prisoner Visitation and Support (PVS) is the only organization authorized by the Federal Bureau of Prisons and the Department of Defense to visit any prisoner in the Federal and Military prison systems. The primary focus is on seeing those prisoners with an acute need for human contact -- those prisoners without regular visits, those serving long sentences who are far from home, those in solitary confinement and on death row, and those who are frequently transferred from prison to prison. PVS visitors let the prisoners set the agenda for what they discuss. Common concerns are: lack of contact with family, untreated medical problems, work or educational plans upon release, current events, literature, etc.

Community Inclusion Club (CIC) is a non-profit that was created to provide/ facilitate socially inclusive opportunities for adults with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) living in and around the Iowa City community. We do this by hosting events once a month at various locations where people with and without ID meet, mingle and get to know one another. Ideally, this will result in people forming friendships, and in turn those friends will meet and communicate with one another outside of our scheduled event times. We realize that people with ID often lack opportunities to interact with their non-disabled peers in the community, and this club was founded to change all that.

What to expect:

We have a lot of different tasks and projects and they vary from season to season. Tasks that we might need help with are:

Milestone Area Agency on Aging is looking for volunteers to delivery meals to local seniors from the Grant Senior Center. Volunteers would pick up meals from the Center and deliver meals based on set routes. Deliveries typically take between 1-2 hours depending on the volume of meals on a day. This is a flexible opportunity and volunteers are able to choose the frequency at which they want to help. 

We are looking for people who want to participate in bieng on a Unified Sports ( a branch of Special Olympics) basketball team. This is a team madeup of adults with and without intellectual disabilities (ID). We practice at Alexander Elemntary School on Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30 and our first competition will be on Februrary 11th. We need a ratio of three people with ID (athletes) to two people without ID (partners) and are short on partners. More sports will follow in the coming months, so even if you cannot commit to the basketball team. we would gladly make you a part of future events. 

Meals on Wheels is dedicated to addressing senior isolation and hunger, delivering  the nutritious meals, friendly visits and safety checks that enable America’s seniors to live nourished lives with independence and dignity.

Sioux City has a need for more volunteer drivers.  Volunteers can deliver as many or as few days as they would like. Whether you are a Monday-Friday driver or only available a couple times/month, we can work with your schedule. Meal delivery takes approximately one hour, just before lunch. This is also a great team-building project, especially for local businesses!

Connections Area Agency on Aging is looking for volunteers to help us facilitate the OATS-Older Adults Technology courses throughout our services area. With the OATS programming we will work to leverage technology to help older adults learn new skills, save money, exercise, and make new friends. IowaCrisisChat.org is an online resource for emotional support, operated by CommUnity Crisis Services and Food Bank located in Iowa City. Since launching IowaCrisisChat.org in 2011, the number of chats and texts we receive has surpassed the number of calls we receive on our crisis hotline (over 15,000 chats vs. 10,000 calls annually for FY2020). People of all ages use this service to talk about a variety of concerns. However, the median age is 21 and 80% of chatters are experiencing thoughts of suicide.

Iowa Crisis Chat volunteers also answer chats from the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline.

Volunteers learn a wide variety of counseling techniques and offer direct support to clients in need. Our training prepares people who have gone on to become therapists, social workers, teachers, lawyers, clergy, doctors, and even genetic counselors. Besides looking good on a resume, volunteering with CommUnity feels good! You get to make a positive difference in the world by connecting with people who are hurting. Even though this is a remote position, you will be supported throughout the process. We have been a volunteer-driven organization for over 50 years, and we have volunteers who have stayed with us for 15+ years because of our positive and supportive culture.

Requirements

Volunteers are supervised and supported by full-time staff members who are available during every shift. Supervisors are there to provide support and advice, and to handle any escalated situations that might require 911 contact.

Milestones Area Agency on Aging is looking for volunteers to help package meals at the Grant Senior Center. Volunteers would assist with assembling meals into containers and getting them ready for delivery. Hours of volunteer service would be Monday-Friday from 8 am-10/10:30am. Volunteers can choose the amount of days they wish to help with. 

This volunteering opportunity works alongside the GDM Habitat for Humanity ReStore staff to ensure all tools and equipment available to borrow from the Tool Library are clean and in full working order. 

This encourages an exemplary experience for the library members by helping guarantee quality items are available for their use on a consistent & reliable basis. This in turn supports the longevity of the Tool Library program, and its goal of supporting stable housing through the availability of low or no cost tools for community homeowners to utilize in the maintenance of their homes.

Are you interested in helping our community during future disasters?  United Way of East Central Iowa helps in the coordination of volunteers through the Volunteer Now website and supports the relief effort of State and Federal relief organizations and the Linn Area Partners Active In Disaster (LAP-AID).   LAP-AID is a coalition of 30+ organizations seeking to build a better-prepared and more resilient Linn County.

The Iowa Wild hockey team has invited Adaptive Sports Iowa to be the recipients of the "Split the Pot" raffle that takes place at all home games throughout the 2022-23 season. The volunteers will assist in selling raffle tickets throughout the games up until the end of the second intermission. At that point, a drawing will take place and the proceeds raised during the game will be split between the winning ticket and Adaptive Sports Iowa. This is a tremendous fundraising opportunity for our organization that will have profound effects on our ability to serve our mission. 

The system in place for the volunteers is extremely user-friendly. Each volunteer will have a wireless device that will print the ticket as well as update a real-time amount ticker on the scoreboard. 

Each volunteer will receive free admission into the game and a free ticket to another game!

Volunteering is fun! Being a Big Brother or Sister is simple and rewarding.  It is as easy as showing your new Little Brother or Sister how to play a favorite computer game, bake an apple pie or reading the funnies together.  We’ve learned that being someone special to a child doesn’t take much more than that. But the impact is huge—for both of you!

Big Brothers Needed! Though Big Brothers Big Sisters is always looking for volunteers from all walks of life, right now there is a greater need for men.  Being a Big Brother is one of the most rewarding things you will ever do. As a Big Brother, you get to be a kid again for an hour a week while you give a kid the invaluable gift of your friendship. Of the boys waiting for a Big Brother right now, there’s one wanting to play video games, shoot hoops, or just hang out with someone just like you!

The Iowa Center for Children’s Justice gives children a voice in divorce and custody conflicts by providing focused legal representation and services for kids. We strive to create stability for children of divorce, lessen the effect of family conflict on children, connect families to support systems and needed resources, and make children’s voices heard.

We do this by offering education workshops to school-age children of divorcing parents to help kids understand and cope with their parents’ separation and divorce. The workshops give children a confidential place to talk about their feelings.  The two-hour workshops are interactive using artwork, games, videos, discussions, and role play to get children comfortable and engaged in conversation. The workshops are two hours on Tuesday evenings once a month. Children are grouped by age; 6-9, 10-12, and 13-16 and placed into age appropriate settings. This is a one-time, court ordered class. 

RSVP Library Material Deliveries

RSVP Library Delivery volunteers (55+ years of age) are important for helping our library patrons who are unable to attend the library utilize services and providing a connection to their community. Delivery of library materials will be from the Oskaloosa Public Library to homebound individuals and individuals with disabilities. RSVP volunteers (55+ years of age) are eligible for reimbursement at a rate of .50/mile. Supplemental insurance is also available for RSVP volunteers. Duties

Volunteer drivers will use their own vehicles to transport library materials to recipients. Volunteers may also be requested to pick up library materials when they are due. Routes of deliveries will be provided to the volunteer prior to picking up materials. We encourage volunteers to spend a few minutes talking with delivery recipients to provide socialization, but is not required.

The service is offered throughout Mahaska County.  Delivery times will vary depending on demand. RSVP volunteers (55+ years of age) are eligible for reimbursement at a rate of .50/mile. RSVP Transportation Coordinators (55+ years of age) provide free critical care trips to medical, dental, and vision appointments; essential shopping and socialization opportunities; and other necessary trips in/outside their respective county for seniors in their local communities. Drivers also serve as companions and share conversations with seniors to help reduce their isolation and provide the reassurance that there is someone who cares for them, they are not alone, and they can remain self-sufficient.

Help with fundraising activities and work with our team to develop and implement an annual development plan/strategy to increase annual grant income.

JUMP is a school-based community mentoring program that serves Johnston students in grades 6-12. Mentors act as positive role models who listen and help set goals, while reinforcing basic skills, attitudes and other life lessons. Currently, we have over 100 community members paired with current Johnston students.  We are always in need of more community mentors.

UnityPoint Health St. Luke's has operated a gift shop within the hospital for over 50 years.  This gift shop is a fundraiser for the hospital and is run entirely by volunteers and managed by the UPH Partners/Auxiliary.  All funds raised by the shop go directly back to the hospital for special projects and college scholarships.  We are looking for volunteers who are outgoing , have great customer service skills and want to help us be successful in raising funds for the hospital.  We currently have 2 locations for our gift shops, one in the hospital and an off site location.

Do you love to drive?

Medical Appointment Drivers bring patients to and from critical medical appointments. You will drive between patient homes and their appointed medical facility. Rides are needed within Cass County as well as from surrounding communities and to medical providers in Des Moines, Council Bluff, Carroll, etc.

Volunteer once a week, once a month, or whenever your schedule permits.

Mileage reimbursement ($.50/mile) is available when driving your personal vehicle. On some occasions, a vehicle may be provided for the specific trip.

Do you love local history and architecture? The Moline Preservation Society (MPS) is seeking new board members and we have several openings. Our Neighborhood association is preparing to make a parade float for this upcoming Halloween parade downtown Moline. We could use some helping hands to create an alter and arch for float. In June 2022 we recently completed a art beatification project on 7th street Moline. We are needing a few extra hands to do some clean up around this plaza 7th street Moline area with weeding, racking, and scrubs.

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) for Children is a national network of 951 community-based programs that recruit, train and support citizen-volunteers to advocate for the best interests of abused and neglected children in courtrooms and communities. Rock Island County currently has 23 volunteer advocates. The advocates are empowered directly by the courts and offer judges the critical information they need to ensure that each child’s rights and needs are being attended to while in foster care. What does a CASA do? - Works to make a child's voice heard in court. - Works to protect a child's safety and well-being in and out of the court room. - Works to make sure children will be placed in a safe and loving home. - Respects a child's right to privacy and does not share any information about a child unless it is for their safety. - Cares about what a child has to say and help support their needs. What does CASA do with a case? - A CASA meets with a child to find out how things are going in a child's foster home, their parents and their school. - A CASA gathers information from other people involved in a child's life and their family. - A CASA writes a report for the judge to use in the next court hearing. We’re looking for volunteers to join us as Community Educators to help educate and spread awareness about Alzheimer’s and dementia in Iowa. A Community Educator is a public speaker who provides Alzheimer’s Association education programs in their community. We need people like you to help us connect with community partners to deliver presentations and ensure that people in your area have the support they deserve. Training provided.

Training

A course is provided, which includes pre-work, orientation to the Association, observation of the program(s) presented, and the opportunity for structured practice with feedback. New presenters are observed and given constructive feedback. Based on the volunteers’ needs and the resources of the chapter, new presenters may also begin by co-presenting with a mentor. If a volunteer has not presented for an extended time, Chapter staff will assess if the volunteer should attend a refresher training to ensure curriculum familiarity.

LaunchPAD is looking for specialized volunteers who are willing to use their skills in further development of our exhibits! Specialized volunteers can range from a seamstress to design costumes for our performing arts exhibit all the way to plumbers maintaining piping in the water table!

Want to learn how a certain exhibit works or just help with upkeep? LaunchPAD is looking for volunteers to help with cleaning and maintenance of existing exhibits and preparation for incoming exhibits.

LaunchPAD needs help on Thursday nights with our fun family night programming! Volunteers help setup activities, assist children as needed, and help clean up afterwards. Thursday night programs are 5:30-6:30 p.m.

LaunchPAD needs helpers during party/special events to assist with set up, tear down, and activities during the event. Volunteers can help in a wide range of ways from wiping down tables, sweeping, running an activity station, and more!

Play guitar? Juggle? Can you make fun origami? LaunchPAD is looking for individuals with fun and unique skills or knowledge that would like to put on a class or even a show for guests! Volunteers will be able to showcase and teach guests either in a classroom or if preferred throughout the museum.

Looking for a fun way to spend some summer hours with LaunchPAD? How about helping campers create fun experiments, do neat activities, and of course get to play with exhibits! Volunteers would work side by side with the educational crew helping campers through all of this and more! Our summer camps are held June – August 9am-12pm and 1pm-4pm and range in a variety of themes!

Looking for some afterschool fun on Mondays? LaunchPAD is looking for energetic volunteers wanting to help our campers learn some new and exciting things! LaunchPAD’s themed camps are held on Mondays 3 times a month from 3-5 pm. Helpers will work with the education crew by keeping the campers engaged with the activities, games, and helping with clean up in-between!

Want to come play with our exhibits and have fun with guests? Come volunteer and engage with guests, help with crafts and other various activities, all while helping facilitate meaningful play-based learning. Playologist help keep our exhibits clean and tidy while interacting and engaging with guests’ experiences!

Help to answer phone at front desk and greet visitors in a pleasant manner as they enter the building.

Childcare volunteers care for children on Mondays while YPT parenting/prenatal groups take place. Volunteer will also assist in setup and takedown, light meal duties and participant assistance as needed.

Volunteer need is from 3pm on Mondays to 6/6:30 Pm. During childcare, the focus is to be attentive to their needs, to talk and play with them, and comfort them as needed. Childcare will take place when participants split to join their designated group and after while parents shop in the food pantry if desired. This part of volunteering is for about 1 hour. Set up takes place one hour prior to group starting. Volunteers will assist staff in getting necessary items for the group from the warehouse. These items include, but are not limited to, white boards, children’s mats for play, toys and activities, highchairs, and any other items not listed. Take down would require some light cleaning and putting items back in the warehouse. Other duties include opportunities to assist in the Advisory Board, some light one on one informational sharing with participants and opportunities to get involved in fundraising events.

Must be 18 or older with desire to work with young children and families. Knowledge of child development and experience working with children and teens is very helpful. The focus is to be attentive to their needs, to talk and play with them, and comfort them as needed. A background check will be required. An orientation will be provided.

The positive impact of an adult role model on student success is powerful – and this impact extends far beyond a student’s teachers and other school staff. Mentors from across our community build life-changing relationships with students to support their success in and out school.

What is the Student Mentoring Program?

Student mentoring in the Dubuque Community School District is defined as a one-to-one relationship between a youth and an adult that occurs over a prolonged period of time.

A mentor provides consistent support, guidance, and concrete help to a student who is in need of a positive role model. Students involved in the mentoring program may be going through a difficult and/or challenging situation, a period of life in which they need extra support, or they may simply need to have another significant adult present in their life.

The goal of student mentoring is to help students involved in the mentoring program to gain the skills and confidence to be responsible for their own futures.

We receive food donations from local businesses several times a week and need some volunteers who would be willing commit to a weekly pickup day. This would entail going to the store one morning a week to pickup the food donations, loading it into the vehicle, bringing it to our building, and unloading it onto shelves in our front lobby for clients. This occurs Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday mornings between the hours of 8-9:30 am. This position could utilize one of our fleet vehicles but must have a clean background check, current driver’s license, and motor vehicle check. No heavy lifting required.

Time Commitment: 1 hour

Janitorial/ Housekeeping: We do not have a maintenance/janitor/housekeeper so we desperately need help with tasks such as vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, windows, mowing, weed whacking, emptying trash, wiping down tables/chairs, cleaning bathrooms, etc. We’d love to have volunteers who are willing to help us keep our building clean in the midst of busy programs.

Time Commitment: 2+ hours

Organization Guru: We have a warehouse full of items that are used for programming, client services, have been donated, etc, and we need help getting it cleaned up and organized in a way that will maximize functionality. The warehouse is also used to store toys for distribution, red kettles for Christmas, emergency disaster relief, food/toiletries for our pantry, etc. Must be able to lift some heavy boxes.

Time Commitment: 2+ hours

Food Pantry Volunteer: Help a neighbor in need! Our food pantry is currently our biggest client service provided to the community. We offer a client choice pantry, which allows our clients to “shop” for the foods they like/need. We need help unloading boxes, stocking/organizing our food pantry, and helping clients shop for their food. This position does require some heavy lifting at times. This position can take place anytime Monday through Thursday from 8:30-2 pm. We would also love help starting a monthly cooking class teaching our clients how to fully utilize pantry ingredients in their own kitchens.

Time Commitment: 1+ hour

Baby Song Volunteer: Baby Song is our fun, weekly music class for littles ages 0-4 and their grown ups. There will be music, instruments, snacks, and baby giggles. This position will help pass out instruments, get snacks ready, pass out snacks, and help lead activities/songs with the littles. This class is every Thursday morning from 10-11:30 am with set up starting around 9:30 am.
