Thank you for considering volunteering with Girl Scouts of Greater Iowa as a Troop “Co-Leader”. During this experience you will be the girls’ cheerleader, guide and mentor. Imagine the excitement, the impact, the memories made – those are the moments you’ll share at Girl Scouts with your troop!

Youth soccer coaches are needed for the fall/spring outdoor seasons. (April/May or September/October)   Time commitment is about 2 hours per week during a 7-8 week season.  1 hour for games on Saturdays and 1 hour for a practice during the week.  Coaches choose their own practice days and time. Equipment is provided.  All games are played at the Iowa City Kickers Soccer Park, 4400 Soccer Park Rd.

Volunteers must be able to pass a background check and complete a short USSF certification class. 

Past experience working with children is desirable along with a positive attitude and good mentoring skills.  Teaching good sportsmanship is a priority.  Past soccer experience is not necessary as training is provided.

Provide support and advocacy directly to our youth clients. This is typically in the afternoons and evenings. Volunteers are required to go through a mandatory 30 hour training before they can specifically be a Youth Services Volunteer

Milestones Area Agency on Aging has routes available in Muscatine and surrounding communities. Volunteers are needed to deliver meals to home-bound seniors Monday through Friday between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Make an older adults day by delivering them a hot, nutritious meal! You can volunteer to deliver meals once a week, once a month, with a friend, with a group or on your own-whatever works for you.

Pathways in Iowa City, a program of Aging Services, is looking for an energetic person to help with small group activities.  The opportunity could involve leading a small card game in our library, helping our Activity Coordinator with arts and crafts, leading book club, gardening, etc.  This is a fun and exciting opportunity that will surely build relationships!

Correspond with a fourth grade student once per month from the convenience of your own home.  The child initiates the writing; you reply, answering questions, sharing your experiences.  At the end of the school year, you and the child meet at a local park to socialize a bit.

Play with and provide care for a group of children, infants through elementary school age while their mothers attend financial education workshops. The Alzheimer's Caregiver support group is an open gathering of individuals with common problems and needs who come together to share their feelings, thoughts and experiences in an effort to better cope with the role of care-giving for a loved one with dementia.  The facilitator needs to have had experience with dementia as a family member or health care provider.  They must have good listening skills and effective communication skills in creating a safe environment where participants' thoughts and feelings are valued and group members are treated with fairness, equity and respect.  The Alzheimer's Association provides initial and ongoing training to facilitators.  A commitment of at least one yer is expected.

Spend some quality time outside with your group or organization beautifying a park, wildlife area or trail. As an Adopt-A-Park sponsor, your group will help the Polk County Conservation Board manage its more than 18,000 acres of public land. We are always in need of volunteers, and especially teams of volunteers, willing to give their time to improve our parks through trash removal, painting, seed collection, plantings, woodland and prairie restoration, trail maintenance and more. With the Adopt -a-Park program your group gets to pick its favorite park or trail, so choose one near your business, church or school and help keep Polk County beautiful. Volunteers groups are required to sign up for a one-year commitment. Responsibilities vary based on age, interest, and need, and we’ll do our best to find the opportunity that best matches the volunteer. Training will be provided as needed on the job.

Cedar Valley Readers is asking for community volunteer groups or individuals to host a Board Book Drive. Board books are for ages birth to 5 years old. They are more durable and promote early learning and motor skill development. We give board books out through our Booking Brighter Futures program, which provides 1 book each month to each family served by our partner home visitation agencies (Lutheran Services in Iowa, Tri-County Head Start, and Operation Threshold). This is roughly 460 families at any given time. In order to support the Booking Brighter Futures program, we need YOUR help in getting good quality used or new board books to these kids!

Volunteers would not be directly working with children; however, the books directly benefit infants/preschoolers (0-4) and children (5-12).

This is an exciting volunteer opportunity for those who love horses and kids! You will help girls learn about horse care and safety, and help girls mount and ride in an arena and on trails. An orientation to the Girl Scout Camp Liberty Equestrian Center and weekend riding program is provided.

A commitment of at least 4 weekends a year on a Saturday or Sunday from 8 - 5 is required.

Do you love caring for horses? As an Equestrian Volunteer for Girl Scouts, you will help with the daily care of horses at beautiful Camp Liberty. This includes feeding grain, throwing hay in the pasture, grooming horses, and checking the horses to ensure health and well being. For those interested, could also include working with girls as part of our weekend riding program.

A Van Driver is needed to provide transportation to and from the Iowa City VA. Volunteers age 21 and over are needed once per week or as available from 6 am to 4 pm. Drivers need proof of insurance, a valid drivers license, and require a government provided physical and back ground check.

As we approach Election day, we are currently in search of volunteers to help us connect with the South Sioux City Community. 

Join us and work on building homes. We can schedule volunteers Monday through Saturday 8 AM to 4 PM. We can accommodate individuals or groups of up to eight volunteers at a time, although we do sometimes have special projects that require more people. Construction volunteers are expected to report to the build site at their designated time for registration. The Life Center is a day rehab for individuals struggling with mental health or substance abuse.  We are open seven days a week and always looking for volunteers to come and spend time with the individuals. We do gardening, play cards, go to the YMCA, do yoga, art therapy, music therapy, play board games, have guest speakers, and more! Our hours are Monday through Thursday 9:30-3:30, Fridays 9:30-2:30, and Saturday and Sunday 10-3. We would love to have someone pick up and drive home individuals. Camp Courageous is looking for someone that likes to drive a car/pickup with a trailer and would help camp out in picking up donation in the Monticello, Manchester, Cedar Rapids and Iowa City area. Camp has a garage sale in Manchester were most of out donated items will go some items we can't sell at the garage sale so they would go to Goodwill in Cedar Rapids. Youth mentors develop healthy, trusting relationships with a young person, modeling healthy boundaries and reliability. They provide fun outlets at the campus (or off campus, with special permission) to engage youth in positive activities that empower them as they go through treatment and counseling.

They are at the treatment center to engage in counseling and other services that help them cope with the past and develop healthy futures. Mentors can expect youth to struggle with a variety of behavioral and emotional issues and should be patient, compassionate, and prepared. Training on trauma-informed care in terms of youth mentoring will be provided.

The WDMHS owns and manages events, activities and education at two significant properties in West Des Moines. The historic home of James C. Jordan (2001 Fuller Road) is the only Central Iowa stop on the Underground Railroad open to the public. The Bennett School (4001 Fuller Road) was built in 1926 and is one of the very last one-room schoolhouses utilized In Polk County.

The West Des Moines Historical Society is specifically interested in volunteers with experience in one or more of the following competencies: corporate fundraising, marketing, communications and human resources. Expertise in these areas across varying platforms such as social media, web, print, etc. is preferred. Prior experience in non-profit fundraising would also be preferred. The Board member would assist with the development and creation of marketing materials and/or with initiatives to ultimately meet the fundraising needs of WDMHS. This is a great opportunity for a professional to serve their community while gaining valuable teamwork and management experience.

The Woodbury County Medical Reserve Corp (WC MRC) is a community-based team of pre-registered and trained volunteers that can respond to all types of disasters within Woodbury County. Waypoint Services is the comprehensive domestic violence victim service provider for Benton, Black Hawk, Buchanan, Delaware, Dubuque, Jones, and Linn Counties and is looking for volunteers to assist individuals experiencing controlling, abusive partners in the Dubuque area.

Volunteer Victim Advocates have the opportunity to assist with answering the 24/7 Resource & Support phone line, supporting victims in criminal and civil court proceedings, and providing emergency advocacy at area hospitals for victims of domestic violence. Volunteer language proficiency evaluators at Iowa Legal Aid play an important role in helping low-income Iowans with limited English proficiency (LEP) skills gain access to justice. Language proficiency evaluators will assess the translation and interpretation abilities of prospective volunteer translators and interpreters. In addition, they may also review and provide feedback on the materials translated by Iowa Legal Aid’s volunteer translators. We need volunteers to evaluate for languages of Iowa’s LEP low-income populations, including but not limited to Spanish, Arabic, Bosnian, Somali, Chinese, Vietnamese, French, German, Russian, Swahili and Laotian.

Volunteer language proficiency evaluators may be asked to review materials such as website articles, outreach resources, legal forms or client letters. Based on their availability, volunteer evaluators will be given regular assignments which they can perform remotely.

This position involves direct contact with victims and survivors of domestic abuse and sexual assault. In particular, we're looking for volunteers to staff the shelter and answer the crisis line, become an on-call advocate and provide support to clients getting sexual assault exams in the hospital, provide transportation to and from appointments, and/or provide child care for children living in the Shelter.

Volunteers working directly with clients must complete a 30-hour Victim Counselor Training. In addition, volunteers must be 18 years of age, successfully complete an application, interview, reference checks, background checks and follow through on orientation. If a survivor, volunteers must wait at least 1 year to volunteer to allow time for self-growth and healing, or they must be approved by Volunteer Coordinator if less than one year has passed.

Each year hundreds of children are abused and neglected in Wapello, Appanoose, Davis, and Monroe Counties. Volunteers are needed to advocate for these children to insure they are not forgotten by a system that is overburdened and overwhelmed with abuse cases. Be the link for a child between where that child is today and where that child should be. Help a child make the journey from hurt to hope. It is not an easy journey and it takes a special person to hold the hand of an abused child who's heart has been broken. It takes time, understanding, determination, and patience.

Volunteers must be 19 years of age, participate in an in-depth interview, and consent to background checks. Volunteers attend 30 hours of training; twenty of those being done in Des Moines or Cedar Rapids, and ten being done locally.

Give back while horsing around at the Jester Park Equestrian Center. We need kind-hearted horse-lovers to help us with the Exceptional Riders and Freedom to Grow programs, which offer therapeutic riding opportunities to individuals with physical and mental disabilities and to children in at-risk situations. You’ll have the opportunity to assist riders on horses, help out the staff, prepare for special events, and complete horse-care related chores. Our riding programs offer riders a unique opportunity to improve the quality of their lives by creating positive experiences and success stories. We are looking for someone that is very organized and detail oriented. We need help with filing case files away. Preferably looking for someone that can come in 3 out of the 5 days a week for 4-8 hours per day until we get caught up on the filing. Food Rescue of Muscatine is looking for volunteers to help pick up food from grocery stores and restaurants and deliver it a pantry to be given to those who are in need.  This opportunity can be once a week, on call basis.  Each route takes about an hour.

Responsible to and receives counsel and guidance from County 4-H staff &4-H Youth Program Specialist

Time Commitment: At least 6 hours of programming time with Clover Kids members, approximately ½ to 1 hour prep time for each meeting. After initial training, attendance at Clover Kids leader workshops is encouraged.

Love is hard work. Fortunately, when you work at something you love, it tends to be a very rewarding experience. If you have an appreciation or love for the great outdoors, giving back through the Polk County Conservation (PCC) will be more than worth your while. Help us protect of our county’s natural heritage by cleaning up parks, restoring woodlands and prairies, monitoring the ecosystem, educating the public, leading other volunteers through activities, and helping with special events and projects at PCC-managed areas On the job training will be provided as needed.

This position requires proficient computer and spreadsheet skills. Volunteer will enter data provided by the clinic into computer files. Most work done at the clinic. May be some opportunities for working from home.

This position requires someone with a good attention to detail, ability to multi-task and follow directions,and various clerical skills. They may file patient charts, make copies of medical forms, work on mass mailings. and various other office projects. They will work under the direction of the office coordinator.

This position requires a person with an ability to sort and organize items into a logical and user friendly way. This may involve organizing an office space, supplies, donated items.

This position involves shopping for items, picking up print orders,etc. and making deliveries deliveries for the clinic as directed by office manager. Must have own vehicle with valid drivers license and car insurance.
