We have homestay hosting opportunities for as little as three days or as long as three weeks! Duties and Responsibilities:

Give back while horsing around at the Jester Park Equestrian Center. We need kind-hearted horse-lovers to help us with the Exceptional Riders and Freedom to Grow programs, which offer therapeutic riding opportunities to individuals with physical and mental disabilities and to children in at-risk situations. You’ll have the opportunity to assist riders on horses, help out the staff, prepare for special events, and complete horse-care related chores. Our riding programs offer riders a unique opportunity to improve the quality of their lives by creating positive experiences and success stories. We are looking for someone that is very organized and detail oriented. We need help with filing case files away. Preferably looking for someone that can come in 3 out of the 5 days a week for 4-8 hours per day until we get caught up on the filing. You must be at least 18 years old and able to pass a background check.

3 or 4 volunteers are needed. Daily hours are 8 a.m. through 4:30 p.m.

Looking for volunteers that would like to provide an class for children 10-18 years old with your favorite hobby or talent.  Painting, pottery, jewelry making, braiding, baking, crafting, scrapbooking, dancing, yoga, zumba, music, model building, knitting, running, drawing, writing, you can do it - we would like to learn it!  A class can be a one time event, a few weeks or ongoing.

Do you enjoy viewing old photographs? We are looking for volunteers to help digitally scan our photograph and 35mm slide collections. Easy to use scanning equipment is available at our museum. Volunteers will be trained on how to properly use the equipment. No prior scanning experience required, but if you've had past experience that is a plus! Food Rescue of Muscatine is looking for volunteers to help pick up food from grocery stores and restaurants and deliver it a pantry to be given to those who are in need.  This opportunity can be once a week, on call basis.  Each route takes about an hour.

We are in need of a Volunteer to delivery commodities to home bound Seniors in Ames, Huxley , and Cambridge. You will need to pass a Criminal Background Check, Child/Adult Registry Check and a Driving record Check.  Our program is once a month and you will be reimbursed for mileage.

Lend your voice to IRIS - a statewide radio station providing readings of local and national print publications for the blind and print disabled. We’re reading from seven cities, seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Can we welcome you to the team in Des Moines, Cedar Falls, Mason City, Iowa City, Fort Dodge, Sioux City or Ames? This volunteer position involves meeting with patients while at the clinic to offer prayer and spiritual resources to those who have an interest in spiritual well being. Must be a committed Christian.

The Ezra Free Clinic is in need of translators to help our doctors and nurses communicate with those patients who don't have a strong grasp of english. This need is especially great when health is in question and some of the things a doctor or nurse needs to know can't be communicated. We would ask that you are able to volunteer at least once a month on Tuesday evenings from 5:45pm - 8:30pm.

Many individuals in the eastern Iowa community cannot afford to go to a dentist His Hands installed a BRAND NEW, two-operatory dental unit in February 2012. We currently have over 100 names on our wait list. Over 50% of those waiting for care report agonizing dental pain. YOU CAN HELP. Dentists volunteering for 3 hours, once a month, can assist up to 48 patients a year. Those are patients who would otherwise have no access to dental care. Hygiene is vital for ongoing dental health. Our greatest need is translators who speak French, Swahili and Spanish. The majority of our needs are during business hours and will vary in need depending on our clients needs.

Role Summary: This position provides essential interpretation and translation support to the Immigration Legal
Services (ILS) and the Refugee Resettlement programs. Many clients do not speak English as their first language
and they rely on high-quality, confidential interpretation and translation to relay their needs, personal information,
and receive advice and program services. All the information received while interpreting for Catholic Charities is
confidential. This role will work closely with ILS and Refugee Resettlement staff and will receive instruction and
direction according to the needs of the program at that time. Specific tasks will vary depending on the volunteer’s
schedule, skills, and interests.

Role Duties/Tasks may include:
● Provide complete and accurate interpretation, without altering, omitting or adding anything to what is
stated or written, without explanation
● Translate into written form any requested documents
● Participate in client meetings with program staff for the purpose of providing interpretation or translation

Experiential learning (do, reflect, apply) is what youth participants in grades K-12 do in the 4-H Youth Development Program! While younger members are developing social skills, older members are developing life skills like communication and leadership.  Clover Kids are youth in Kindergarten through third grade and 4-H members are in grades 4-12. 

The 4-H program comes from Iowa State University Extension and Outreach and is offered through each county Extension office.  The mission is to empower youth to reach their full potential through youth-adult partnerships and research-based experiences. 

Adults volunteer to guide youth through experiential experiences in a club setting, short term program, etc.  Training and resources are provided.  Background check required.  Story County ISU Extension and Outreach youth staff are happy to help interested adults start a club or program in their neighborhood, community, etc.

VNS of Iowa's Storybook Project recruits, screens and trains volunteers to work with incarcerated parents and/or grandparents at the Iowa Correctional Institute for Women (ICIW) in Mitchellville, Iowa and the Newton Correctional Release Center (CNRC) in Newton, Iowa.

Once per month, volunteers work with the mother, grandmother or father. The parent/grandparent and volunteer choose a book from the Storybook library that is appropriate for the child. The parent or grandparent reads the book while the volunteer records the reading onto a digital voice recorder. The book and CD are mailed to the child.

 Welcoming a new baby requires a lot of gear, and many moms simply can’t afford these basic items.

Work hands on with cats, dogs, and other animals. Volunteers clean up after the animals and spend time socializing them. Power Read is a literacy and mentoring program that pairs volunteers and elementary school students to read together on a weekly basis. Everybody Wins! Being trained by the KHOI station manager and learning standard radio practices for reporting, interviewing, production, and hosting.

Mediation is about solving problems without the burdens and expenses of the court system. Volunteer mediators make sure that everyone, regardless of their ability to pay, has access to mediation services. Whether people are dealing with a fender bender or a contract dispute, you can help create the environment where disputing parties can sit down, discuss, and solve their problems. Volunteers will work with the Polk County Court Mediation Program through the Small Claims Division of the Fifth Judicial District Court. Volunteers will be assigned to the Polk County Courthouse. Volunteers 55 years old and over who enroll in the 55+ Initiative are eligible for transportation reimbursement. Training is required and will be provided.

Our volunteers are a vital part of keeping the library running. We are currently looking for a volunteer to help shelve books that are reserved for patrons. Volunteers may be asked in addition to help with craft projects, data entry work, and restocking supplies around the library.

This is a weekly commitment, taking up approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Shelvers should be able to bend down and straighten repeatedly. Must be detail oriented and be able to alphabetize. The Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) provides free of charge counseling and information to people with questions about Medicare, Medicare supplement insurance, long term care insurance and claim filing. Volunteers help answer questions and provide impartial information to help seniors make well informed decisions. Volunteer counselors complete an extensive five day training program and regular update trainings. Training is provided free of charge by the State of Iowa Insurance Division.  Volunteers with this program often dedicate 8 hours a week to the program with the exception of open enrollment period (Oct-Dec) in which they may see a small increase in hours. The Jones County Volunteer Center and the Jones County Emergency Management Agency partnered in 2014 to form an official Emergency Volunteer Center (EVC) for Jones County. The purpose of the EVC is to manage volunteers and their safety during large scale events, including natural disasters. The EVC is focusing on training volunteers on EVC operations and action plans, recruiting new volunteers, and planning a disaster drill in Jones County. Volunteers come from all walks of life and are only required to attend an EVC orientation and basic training. AARP Driver Safety, the nationﾒs first and largest older driver safety initiative, is recruiting unpaid volunteers to instruct, coordinate and promote its educational offerings--including the AARP Smart Driver Course, CarFit program, and We Need to Talk seminar. AARP Driver Safety has a variety of volunteer opportunities available, including:

In addition to English-speaking volunteers, the initiative has a strong need for Spanish-speaking volunteers. AARP Driver Safety asks that volunteers be able to dedicate at least 10 hours to the program each month, and have Internet access and an email account. Please note that all AARP Driver Safety volunteer positions are unpaid. However, volunteers are reimbursed for approved out-of-pocket expenses, such as mileage, parking and basic supplies.

There is an ongoing opportunity to be involved in our Coalition to reduce youth substance use.  We are always in need of community members who have a wide variety of skills. We have a Marketing and Special Events committee, Policy committee, Outreach and Fundraising Committee, Executive Committee and a Planning Committee (that meets on an as needed basis).  We also have a youth advisory group that needs adult sponsors. If you cannot come to regular monthly coalition meetings or be involved in committees, you can also just volunteer with various special events and fundraisers or even with office work or hanging posters or signs. We may have fundraising opportunities that include baking and serving food or helping with a 5K this fall. 

The Artisan's Sanctuary is a non-profit arts cooperative that needs a volunteer to manage/update our website.

Country View Care Facility seeks Recreation Assistants to assist Recreation Aides with outings, special events and activities. As an assistant you'll do so many fun things with residents - especially in the warmer months when residents can get outdoors and take advantage of things happening in the area. More volunteers participating means more residents can participate, especially those in wheelchairs!

This is an opportunity for those 18 years or older with opportunities Monday - Friday days with a few evenings on occasion. Some may have to assist with pushing wheelchairs, but it's not a necessity to participate.

Some Recreation Assistants have helped with events such as outings to community events, participating in a picnic, an ice cream outing, fishing, attending a baseball game, and shopping at Wal-Mart.  

This volunteer opportunity provides the chance to make a significant contribution to 4Cs Home Ties Child Care Center - while you complete your own household chores!  We need someone that can do the laundry for Home Ties every second week of the month. Become a volunteer driver with the American Cancer Society Road To Recovery program and provide rides as requested from cancer patients to and from their cancer treatments. Most rides take place during the hours of 7AM-6PM, Monday through Friday. The frequency of requests and times vary daily depending on how many patients need a ride at any given time. Every volunteer driver donates their time and gas - and can decide how often to provide rides, when, and how far! This is a very flexible and meaningful program - which can be lifesaving for cancer patients who have no other transportation options.

Volunteer drivers must have:

* A current, valid driver’s license and between the ages of 18-84 
* A good driving record
* Access to a safe and reliable vehicle 
* Proof of adequate automobile insurance

Cedar Valley Friends of the Family has started a new comprehensive program to offer services to victims of Human Trafficking. Human Trafficking brings in billions of dollars worldwide. On any given day there are around 300 people for sale in Iowa. CVFF has taken the initiative to offer after care to victims that have faced this trauma.

The Human Trafficking program is unique and one of the first of its kind in Iowa. The Iowa Attorney General’s office has made human trafficking a priority by funding powerful initiatives like this one. CVFF is looking for community collaboration to stop human trafficking. It’s through these collaborative efforts that true healing can begin. We need skills based volunteers to partner with us and help empower victims.

Seeking individuals who want to empower victims of human trafficking. Do you have compassion for those who have been impacted by modern day slavery? The BookEnd is a fundraiser for the Iowa City Public Library Friends Foundation, a non-profit which generates private resources to support the Iowa City Public Library. Volunteers at The BookEnd help achieve that mission by selling gently-used donated books, music, movies and more. BookEnd volunteers love to read, love the Iowa City Public Library, and love to help others!

BookEnd volunteers sell books and more to customers seeking treasures and bargains while shopping for a great cause. The BookEnd is on the second floor of the Iowa City Public Library. Sales proceeds support the Children's Summer Reading Program, Teen Summer Reading Program, Art-to-Go project, and other activities of the Iowa City Public Library.

We host monthly low-cost vaccination and microchip clinics and they typically fall on Saturday mornings. These have gotten very popular and they tend to be extremely busy. Volunteers help people fill out paperwork and navigate the line for services. Some animal handling experience as well as good customer service skills is helpful.

Interested individuals will need to attend a volunteer orientation or make arrangements for special training.

We can do anywhere from 25 to 80 spay or neuter surgeries, depending on the day! This means that our morning check in/out process can be really busy. Volunteers greet clients and their animals at the door and give them the appropriate form to fill out. They also help clean up the lobby area after check out/in is over around 9:00am.

LSI's People Place offers support for parents of young children. Help care for children while their parents participate in parent education support groups and classes. Help provide a warm, caring and positive atmosphere modeling patience, encouragement and respect.

Volunteer language proficiency evaluators at Iowa Legal Aid play an important role in helping low-income Iowans with limited English proficiency (LEP) skills gain access to justice. Language proficiency evaluators will assess the translation and interpretation abilities of prospective volunteer translators and interpreters. In addition, they may also review and provide feedback on the materials translated by Iowa Legal Aid’s volunteer translators.
