We are looking for volunteers who are passionate about teaching the next generation to help with Museum School during the week. Museum School is a week of lessons and activities at our various locations teaching 3rd graders about their community, local history and science. This is a free learning experience offered to schools around the state. Whether you have worked with kids your whole life or are looking to start your work with students we can use your help! 

We are looking for at least one volunteer each day of Museum School, which runs through the school year, to assist with lessons, aiding in crosswalk safety and helping the children stay focused in group settings. Museum school runs from 9:30am-2pm either Monday-Thursday or Tuesday-Friday (depending on the school). Volunteers can serve wherever fits in their schedule, whether that's full or partial days. 

(Retired persons, or college students would be a great fit for this opportunity!)

Interested volunteers can either respond to this need or reach out to Hannah Dennis for details on how to get started! 

Volunteers will guide families through the backpack and school supply selection process and ensure the families receive their requested items.   If families have registered for additional services such as haircuts, vaccinations, eye and/or dental screenings, volunteers will direct families to those service areas.

Volunteers will also help restock and straighten backpacks and school supply tables as needed.

38 students will be arriving in shifts with their families every 15 minutes.

Story County 4-H is seeking volunteer club leaders to help guide youth through an exciting FIRST® LEGO® League experience. Volunteer leaders will partner with 4-H staff to provide positive youth development opportunities through hands-on STEM learning, robotics, teamwork, and problem-solving.

As a 4-H FIRST® LEGO® League Volunteer Club Leader, you will work directly with youth in either the Explore level (grades 2–3) or Challenge level (grades 4–8). Leaders will work alongside another FLL volunteer and Story County Extension staff to plan, facilitate, and support a successful season.Volunteer Responsibilities

Volunteers must:

Volunteer leaders will need access to a meeting space that can accommodate a 4-foot x 8-foot FIRST® LEGO® League table during the season. Ideally, the table can remain assembled throughout the competition period.

Story County FLL teams typically meet once per week for approximately 1–1.5 hours during the competition season.

There is no cost to serve as a volunteer club leader. Story County Extension will provide curriculum, resources, LEGO® materials, program guidance, and ongoing support throughout the season.

Experience with STEM, robotics, LEGO® building, or working with youth is encouraged but not required. We are looking for volunteers who are excited to help youth learn, create, and grow through FIRST® LEGO® League and 4-H.

Purpose of Role: To guide youth in grades K-3 in their Clover Kids  afterschool Club Experience 

4-H Mission: To empower youth to reach their full potential through Youth Adult Partnerships and research-based experiences.

4-H Volunteer Role: Volunteers will partner with 4-H staff to develop Positive Youth Development (PYD) experiences that promote children’s positive development through cooperative learning and developmentally appropriate practices to support life skills: self-understanding, social interaction, decision-making, learning to learn, and mastering physical skills. 

Benefits: Satisfaction of helping K-3 youth develop skills that will help them through their lives.  Opportunities for personal grown and appreciate from youth and parents who love the program!  

Estimated Time: 2 hours: 1 hour for preparation and 1 hour for implementation of programming on monthly basis.  

Resources Available: Clover Kids/K-3 resource lessons and supplies provided by Story County Extension and Outreach.    

Current Need: Adult volunteers to guide Clover Kids clubs at ACPC locations.  Each club requires a minimum of two adult volunteers.

1:1 Compassion Visit with Residents

Conduct individualized visits with residents to provide companionship, emotional support, and a caring presence. Engage residents in meaningful conversation, active listening, and shared activities based on their interests and needs. Foster a sense of connection, dignity, and well-being while offering encouragement, comfort, and spiritual support when appropriate. Help reduce feelings of loneliness and isolation by building trusting relationships and creating opportunities for residents to share their stories, concerns, and experiences.

Key Activities:

The purpose of this ministry is to support and pray for others in a group setting through intercessory prayer. Wednesdays from 1:00-1:30 in Gables Chapel.

Provides instrumental and vocal leadership for ecumenical worship services, supporting congregational singing and fostering a welcoming worship environment for people from diverse Christian traditions. Collaborates with clergy, worship leaders, and musicians to select and perform music that reflects the themes of the service, encourages participation, and promotes unity in worship.

The Cedar Rapids City Council appoints hundreds of community volunteers to serve as members of the City's various boards, commissions, committees and task forces. These volunteer groups are a large portion of the support system for our City government.

All of the City's boards and commissions play a critical role in public policy development, implementation and review for the City Council. These groups serve an important function in molding decisions for our community, acting as the voice of the residents and providing stewardship of the City's assets.

ElevateHER Network, Inc. is seeking energetic, positive, and dependable volunteers for Elevate the Future: Youth Leadership Experience, a FREE, co-ed leadership event for youth ages 6–18.

Leadership Starts With Me.

Throughout the day, youth will participate in interactive, age-appropriate activities designed to strengthen leadership, communication, teamwork, confidence, decision-making, and problem-solving skills.

Volunteers will play an important role in making the experience engaging and meaningful. Volunteers may be assigned to an age group and assist with facilitating activities, encouraging youth participation, leading small-group conversations, helping with transitions, serving meals, assisting with setup and cleanup, and being a positive role model throughout the day.

You do not need to be an experienced mentor or educator to volunteer. We are looking for community members who enjoy encouraging young people, can engage positively with youth, and are willing to jump in and participate.

Are you passionate about history and community engagement? The Grinnell Historical Museum is looking for enthusiastic volunteers to help us bring the stories of Grinnell to life! Supporting Siena Francis House as a meal service volunteer is one of the most impactful ways to serve those experiencing homelessness in the Omaha community. Join us for a meaningful day of service as we honor the legacy of those who supported our nation during the 9/11 attacks. Habitat for Humanity of Omaha invites volunteers to participate in our 9/11 Service and Remembrance Build Day, a hands-on opportunity to help construct a home for a local family in need.

TASKS: 

We use our volunteers for just about every aspect of the build from framing, and siding, to finishing and cleaning up - so it’s best to register with a big heart and open mind. Generally speaking, your entire build site will have one main task for the day and it will be indicated in the “Additional Event Details” section at least two days prior to your volunteer date.  

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:  

No tools or experience are necessary, our supervisors will be happy to train everyone on the tasks of the day.  

DRESS CODE: 

Please wear closed toe shoes/weather-appropriate clothing. Remember this is an active construction site when choosing your attire.  

AGE RESTRICTIONS: 

Volunteers must be at least 16 years of age. Volunteers between 16 and 18 years of age will have restricted use of tools and other equipment.  

WHAT WE’LL PROVIDE: 

We’ll provide personal protection equipment (Hardhats, glasses, earplugs, gloves, etc.), the necessary tools, skilled staff to train you, and a safe build site.  

WHAT TO BRING: 

Please bring a reusable water bottle so that you can fill up at our water station as needed.

We wish that we could tell you where you’ll be right when you sign up, however our build schedule is always being updated. Most of the time we know what location you’ll be assigned (and the task) on the Friday of the week before your volunteer date. You can check back using this link to see if there have been any updates to your date in the additional details section. Our system will automatically send you an email two days prior to your volunteer date with the information. If any changes are made after the two day prior reminder, we will email and text all affected volunteers. 

PARKING: 

Please park in any legal parking area on the street near the home you are volunteering at. Please be mindful of the people who reside on the street and do not park near driveways or fire hydrants. If you are volunteering with people you know we suggest carpooling as much as possible to reduce the number of cars parked in the area.  

If you are volunteering at one of our warehouses you are able to park in any of the available parking stalls. 

WEATHER CANCELATIONS: 

For snow-related cancellations, Habitat Omaha will follow the closing policy of Metropolitan Community College (MCC).  If MCC classes are canceled or scheduled for early dismissal, volunteers will also be canceled/dismissed. 

In most cases we will be canceling (or dismissing early) outdoor work assignments for volunteers will be anything lower than a temperature of 10° or higher than a temperature of 95°.

Tom & Liz, a senior couple, are looking for some skilled volunteers to help with hooking up new drain spouts to the garage, installing a kitchen sink, and possibly patching a leak on the bay window and the roof. 

Volunteers are needed to help with general yard clean-up.

Volunteers are needed to help with general yard clean-up around the Musserville Church, where they host the Senior Center. 

Volunteers are needed to help paint the stoop at the residence and help with general yard clean-up/work.

Volunteers are needed to help paint a wheelchair ramp at a residence.

Volunteers are needed to organize our donation area and do light cleaning in our shared living spaces (living room, dining room, and kitchen). ​Volunteers would be organizing clothing, personals/toiletries, feminine hygiene products, diapers, cleaning products, school supplies, food items, and much more. We provide basic necessities every month for up to the 77 families staying in New Directions Shelter, The Home Connection, and our other housing programs.​

​This is a great project for a single person to work on, or you can sign up to bring a group (up to 10 people at a time). Volunteers should be 12 and older. Youth 14 years of age and younger should have an adult on site with them while volunteering.

About Families Forward: Families Forward (previously Bidwell Riverside Center and Hawthorn Hill) has four main programs: Bidwell Pantry, Child Development Center, New Directions Shelter (emergency housing), and The Home Connection (long-term housing). For over 100 years, our mission has been to provide compassionate, life-changing assistance to families and their path to self-sufficiency.

Interpreters will assist families and other Ready Set School volunteers by providing language interpretation throughout the event. Volunteers will help families communicate with staff, understand event instructions, and access available services such as school supplies, backpacks, haircuts, vaccinations, and health screenings. Interpreters will also help answer questions and ensure families feel welcomed and supported as they move through the event.

Volunteers will also help restock and straighten backpacks and school supply tables as needed.

38 students will be arriving in shifts with their families every 15 minutes.

We're looking for groups of 10+ volunteers to help us increase the tree canopy in low equity neighborhoods around Des Moines. Adding trees to a community has a ton of benefits, including an increase in physical and mental health!

We're currently scheduling tree planting shifts for this fall, with opportunities from September 16 to October 31, on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Kids Can mentors are dedicated volunteers who provide guidance, support, and encouragement. Mentoring matches meet once a week connecting through fun activities focused on STEM, the arts, reading and the interests of mentees. All mentors receive training and ongoing support from Kids Can staff. The year-long friends provide a caring, stable influence in a kid’s life.

Where and when does mentoring take place?
The mentoring takes place on-site at Kids Can Community Center on 48th & Q Streets and Druid Hill elementary - a Kids Can Site, from 4:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

What kinds of activities do mentors and mentees do together?
Mentor pairs decide what they want to do together. Activities range from building a robot, reading a story, to baking a pizza, to performing science experiments! Kids Can provides the activities and supplies necessary for your mentoring partnership needs.

Rebuilding Together is looking for volunteers to help with a ramp build.

City of Muscatine is looking for help converting landscape beds from mulch beds to rock beds. This will include raking and removing existing mulch. Laying of weed barrier matting and laying of rock throughout the landscape beds around the City Hall parking lot.

Jean is looking for help with general yardwork. This would include weeding and cutting down old brush. 

Helen is looking for help with general yard work. This would include weeding, mowing, etc. 

Clark house is looking for volunteers to help with weeding and winding up the gardening for the year. This will include helping with trimming plants back, deadheading plants/flowers, and general cleanup of the flower beds.

Muscatine County Conservation is looking for help at Discovery Park. They need help with weeding flowerbeds, picking up litter, and mulching around the park. 

Help refresh a lower-level office area as MCSA prepares for a new partnership. This project would involve painting and helping set up an office space for a System Navigator.

Helping to organize the operations area. This would include organizing and emptying file cabinets, sorting materials, and rearranging the space to improve efficiency.

Volunteers needed to help organize and clean the agency storeroom.

Help us provide healthy lunches for children and teens in our community during the summer. Volunteers play an important role in making sure meals are warm, prepared accurately and ready for distribution.

Many families and individuals in our community struggle daily to secure enough food to eat. The Coralville Community Food Pantry (CCFP) works to address this issue by offering weekly food assistance to anyone in Coralville who needs it.

CCFP is a client-choice based pantry, which means it operates much like your local grocery store. Volunteers help prepare the pantry for our open hours to the public. Duties may include: unloading food deliveries, sorting, stocking shelves, cleaning, etc. Opportunities exist Tuesday through Saturday, with some flexibility in time of shift.

Many families and individuals in our community struggle daily to secure enough food to eat and they often have to overcome additional barriers such as transportation and housing. The Coralville Community Food Pantry (CCFP) works to address this issue by offering weekly food deliveries to anyone in Coralville or Tiffin who needs it. Volunteer drivers will pick up pre-packaged groceries, up to 7 per route and deliver them around Coralville and Tiffin for a no-contact, front door delivery.  Routes usually take no longer than an hour to complete.  Deliveries can be done at any moment in time between Tuesday and Saturday from 9:30 - 6 PM.

Are you 55 or better looking to make a difference in your community?

Food Pantry is looking for an individual to help prepare food orders.  Orders come in all through out the day and a volunteer would be very much appreciated to help pre-bag some orders based on family size, and help stock the pantry.  Flexible hours. Must be able to lift 20-25 lbs.

Would be preferred if the volunteer would have a set day or time they would come in to help.  This would be a great job for a couple of friends to do together.  Being self directed would be a plus.  Location of the pantry is at Community Action Agency.

As a Guest Services volunteer, you are the friendly face and helping hands that keep The Wanderwood Gardens safe, beautiful, and welcoming for every visiting family! While Guest Services volunteers assist with a variety of tasks throughout the day, our Afternoon Shift plays a critical role in putting the Gardens "to bed" and ensuring our attractions are fresh and ready for the next morning's guests.

Key Closing Duties Include:

Attraction Reset: Stroll through our whimsical activity zones to tidy up, sweep pathways, and reset play elements so everything is in its place.

Cottage Closing: Help close down the Cottage Learning Center, including light sweeping and vacuuming.

Facility Support: Empty trash and recycling receptacles throughout the main areas and assist with a light cleaning/stocking of the visitor restrooms.

Guest Assistance: Answer final visitor questions and share a warm farewell with families as they head home at the end of the day.

Shift Details & Expectations:

Qualifications: Friendly attitude, attention to detail, and ability to perform light physical activity (walking, sweeping, bending).

Attire: Branded Wanderwood Volunteer t-shirt, neat pants or shorts, and comfortable walking shoes.

Onboarding: No prior experience needed! On-the-job training is provided directly by your Guest Services team at the start of your shift.

Parking: Please park in the DABG in any area outside of our main visitor parking lot to save spaces for guests.

Program description:

Renewed Hope is a ministry of the Grinnell Friends Church located in Grinnell Iowa. The work of the ministry is done by volunteers and funded by free will donations.  We are passionate about helping people get the home furnishings needed to make a house their home. Often times they are starting over and have little. Other times they just need to fill in some gaps. Either way, we want to help. There are many generous people that are willing to donate. There are also a lot of usable home furnishings that end up in the trash. We want to connect both of those to people in need.

Duties:

·       Help pick up and deliver home furnishings.

·       Greet and assist community members as they visit the store for home furnishings.

Skills required:

●      RSVP volunteers must be 55 years of age or older.

●      Ability to help lift and move furniture.

●      Able to keep information confidential

●      Positive attitude and willing to serve families in need

●      Relate well to others and take a team approach.

Amount of Time: 3-5 hours

Time of Day: Help is needed moving furniture on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays of each month from 8am-1pm.

Operation information: Our goal is help those who need help with home furnishings. We are hopeful to work with kind-hearted, thoughtful and compassionate volunteers who will assist in our mission.   Our purpose is to make home furnishings available to those that need them. We pick up donated furnishings and deliver them to people in Poweshiek County Iowa. There is no charge for the furnishings or for pick up or delivery. Free will donations are accepted. We would love to strengthen our community by developing relationships with those we meet.

If you have not volunteered in this capacity at the art center previously, then we must conduct an interview, and you will need to pass a background check before you may volunteer. Email director@bluffstrokes.org to schedule an interview and complete the necessary background check. 

In this role volunteers will be expected to provide an extra set of hands during art camp.  Volunteers will help set up the youth activities, provide additional supervision, and help with tear down and clean up. 

The DMARC Food Pantry at West Des Moines Human Services is in need of volunteers to assist clients with food orders, stock shelves, rotate inventory, package personal care items and accept donations. Volunteers will help families shop to meet their food and personal care needs. Some lifting is required. Morning and afternoon shifts are available, Monday through Friday as well as Tuesdays from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm. Shifts are in two to three hour increments. Volunteers may either commit to one shift per week, or volunteer intermittently as a sub.
