We're looking for friendly, reliable volunteers to serve as the welcoming face of the gym during open hours. This role includes greeting community members, helping ensure a safe and positive environment, and acting as the on site host/supervisor for the shift.

Volunteer will receive training on the use of the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and the Emergency Contact Plan.

We are currently looking for passionate people to volunteer as Fresh Conversations Facilitators! Fresh Conversations is a monthly nutrition program that takes place at congregate meal sites and community centers. The Fresh Conversations Facilitator is responsible for leading a discussion based on the monthly Fresh Conversations newsletter as well as preparing the food tasting. The groups are generally small (8-12 people) and the meeting lasts about 30 minutes.

We provide a monthly Facilitator Guide to make presenting the information fun and easy. A background in nutrition is not required, just a desire to help others maintain healthy and active lives!

• Scheduling/Admin Support – Help with phones, scheduling, and reminders.

No experience needed—training, support, and IRS ethics certification provided at no cost. Flexible scheduling Monday–Thursday.

Cedar Rock State Park (a 40-minute drive from Waterloo) and the Friends of Cedar Rock (a nonprofit that supports the Walter House) are looking for a volunteer teacher to possibly lead three two-or-three-hour summer camps (May—August 2026). The ideal would be a summer camp for elementary-aged children, middle school, and high school. We are looking for volunteers to help plan, design, and lead these summer camps for 2026. 

Cedar Rock State park preserves the Frank Lloyd Wright-designed Lowell Walter Residence. The Usonian-style house was constructed on a bank of the Wapsipinicon River near Quasqueton, Iowa, in 1950. Frank Lloyd Wright is widely regarded as one of the greatest and most famous architects of all time. He designed eight of the 26 UNESCO World Heritage sites in the United States. The Walter House is on the National Register of Historic Places in Iowa. It is a very distinct house in the Frank Lloyd Wright world because it is one of only 25 Wright dwellings with his signature block, which was Wright’s way to communicate a house of noteworthy dissection. We would like these three summer camps to focus on architecture and nature (as Frank Lloyd Wright's style of architecture—called organic architecture—was to build homes that connected/integrated with nature). Dr. Laura Porter, Executive Director of the Iowa Architectural Foundation, is willing to share a curriculum they use for 5-day youth camps in Des Moines to make architecture alive, real, and exciting to youth. Their curriculum is for 8th and 9th graders.

Camp Wapsie uses a lot of firewood for campfires. We are seeking volunteers who can bring their own chainsaw and help cut down dying trees or cut up down trees for firewood. We will fell most trees that are near buildings or in more dangerous spots. We also have a splitter volunteers can use to split wood. Volunteers must be fairly active as this is a somewhat physical activity. Volunteers fill out a Voluntary Disclosure form if they are here when we have guests in camp.

Camp Wapsie has several areas that could use some painting updates. We are seeking volunteers who can help us painting some walls, benches, signs and other areas around camp. Duties include making and bagging meat sandwiches, snacks, vegetables, etc. Volunteers will clean up utensils, tables and floors.

Monday through Friday, 9:00am to 11:30 am.

Commitment to one shift a week is preferred, but not required. 

Many jobs can be accomplished by sitting, although some standing and lifting may be involved.

Compliance with health guidelines and respectful workplace policies, required.

Distributing lunches: One or two individuals to greet and hand out bagged lunches and drinks for up to 150 homeless neighbors from designated "yellow" door.

SCIC is proud to offer a licensed preschool program for children ages 3-5, primarily serving the children of refugees. Our preschool consists of a 3-year-old room and a 4-year-old room, where children not only prepare for school but also develop essential English language skills. Our Preschool also serves as an additional summer support while their parents attend ELL (English Language Learner) classes. We are dedicated to ensuring these children are well-prepared for kindergarten and a successful academic journey. We are always looking for caring and dedicated volunteers to help guide these young learners, whether it’s through one-on-one support, engaging activities, or simply providing a positive presence in their lives. Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Mississippi Valley (BBBSMV) urgently needs mentors — especially male mentors — with more than 200 local youth currently waiting for a Big. One caring adult can make a life-changing difference. Our one-to-one mentoring programs connect dedicated volunteers with local youth to build meaningful relationships that help young people gain confidence and reach their full potential.

Every BBBSMV match is intentionally designed with safety, compatibility, and success in mind. Volunteers commit to meeting with their Little 2–4 times per month for 12 months, with each visit lasting about 45 minutes — a consistent, manageable commitment that builds trust over time. With three flexible program options, Bigs can choose to meet in the community, at a local school, or during the school day, ensuring a positive, impactful experience for both Bigs and Littles.

Community-Based Program
Bigs and Littles connect out in the community, often during evenings or weekends. Matches can take advantage of activities offered through BBBSMV and our community partners — from TBK Sports Complex and arcade or bowling outings to Figge Art Museum classes and more. Bigs receive weekly emails highlighting available activities, including BBBS-hosted experiences and partner-provided opportunities, making it easy to plan fun, meaningful time together.

School-Based Plus Program
Bigs and Littles meet both at a local elementary school and out in the community, offering the best of both worlds. Time together may include reading, playing games, sharing a meal, or enjoying recess at school, along with participating in BBBSMV and partner activities in the community. Bigs receive weekly emails featuring upcoming opportunities, and matches are invited to quarterly match events that celebrate connections and shared experiences.

School-Based Program
Bigs meet exclusively at a local elementary school during lunch or recess. Activities may include reading, art projects, board games, homework help, outdoor play, and spending quality time together — providing Littles with a consistent, caring adult presence during the school day.

Match & Group Events for Community-Based and School-Based Plus Matches
BBBSMV hosts quarterly match events to celebrate and strengthen connections, along with monthly group activities for all Bigs and Littles. These include developmentally focused outings for elementary students and Big Futures events that support career exploration, goal setting, and post–high school planning for middle and high school youth.

The purpose of the commission is to foster the community planning process, develop policies, goals, plans, and management tools, and help guide the community's future development, public policies, and decision making.  One way the Commission accomplishes these tasks is by supervising the preparation and maintenance of the City’s Comprehensive Plan, a policy guide for the community’s physical, social, and economic development.  Staff support the Commission to help carry out this work. The Historic Preservation Commission identifies, promotes and safeguards Dubuque’s historical, cultural, environmental and aesthetic resources for enjoyment of the community. Staff support the Commission with exterior design review; evaluation, nomination and registration of historic properties; and public outreach. The historic preservation program is a critical economic development tool for Dubuque and the Commission plays an important role. Meetings are held at 5:30pm on the third Thursday of each month at the Historic Federal Building. Members are appointed to 3 year terms. Members must live within Dubuque city limits.

The RSVP Youth Reading volunteer will provide reading help and companionship to elementary students.

Program description

Reading is a critical skill for life. To help students achieve their full potential with reading skills, the RSVP Youth Reading Program is asking for volunteers to aid in small reading groups. Volunteers will be asked to follow teachers’ detailed instructions with a small group of students and engage in reading activities.

Duties:

●      Interact with elementary students and be a welcoming adult face.

●      Provide help with reading as needed.

●      Protect the privacy and confidentiality of students and their families.

Skills required:

●      Must be 55 years of age or better.

●      Relate well to staff, volunteers and children, and work with a team approach.

●      Willingness to support students in their academic work.

●      Must successfully pass a background check.

Amount of Time:    1–2-hour weekly shifts – we will work with your schedule.

Time of Day: As scheduled during school hours, Monday through Friday.

Supervisor:  Supervision is provided by the Classroom Teacher.

The RSVP Childcare Classroom Helper:   Your job requires you to bring your listening ears, your patience, your love for children and lots of smiles as you help children and teachers in their daycare and learning journey. This volunteer will provide classroom help and companionship to daycare students and teachers at Turnbull Child Development Center.

Program description: Education provides critical skills for life. To help students achieve their full potential, the Turnbull Child Development Center is seeking volunteers to aid in classroom activities, assisting children ages 1-12 and their teachers with playtime and other classroom activities. Volunteers will be asked to follow teachers’ instructions while working with children and assist the teacher with preparation and other classroom activities.

Duties:

●      Interact with children ages 1-12 and be a welcoming adult face

●      Provide help to children and teachers as needed.  This does not include hands on care.

●      Protect the privacy and confidentiality of students and their families

Skills required:

●      Must be 55 years of age or older.

●      Must successfully pass a background check.

●      Relate well to staff, volunteers and students and work with a team approach.

●      Willingness to support children in the childcare setting.

Supervisor:  Volunteers will be supervised by the staff of Turnbull Child Development Center with overall supervision provided by the Director.

Amount of Time:   2-hour weekly shifts, varies – we will work with your schedule.  A minimum of 1 shift weekly is appreciated, but feel free to take more!

Time of Day:  As available during the Center’s hours -  Monday through Friday.

The Turnbull Child Development Center provides nurturing, high quality early childhood development and care.

This volunteer position ROCKS! RSVP Infant Companions spend special time with infants by rocking, reading and interacting one-on-one. 

The infant room is fully staffed with dedicated teachers who supervise and take care of all the basic needs (read: they change the diapers). The volunteer’s role is to supplement that care by spreading a little extra joy through their interactions with the infants.

Studies show that positive, one-on-one social interaction contributes to infant brain, physical and language development and helps them build trust and confidence. You are a part of that healthy development! (and it’s good for YOU, too)

Duties:

●      Interact with infants by rocking, reading and talking with them

●      Practice safe sleep methods by placing infants on their backs to sleep

●      Protect the privacy and confidentiality cof infants and their families

Skills required:

●      Must be 55 years of age or better.

●      Relate well to staff, volunteers and infants and work with a team approach.

●      Ability to lift to 20 pounds.

Amount of Time:   2 hours, varies – we will work with your schedule

Program description:  The Restored Depot and WWII Veteran’s Museum offers two volunteer opportunities including greeting museum visitors and helping them to enjoy the museum to the fullest; Flower Garden Assistant during Spring/Summer/Fall - assisting with weeding and care of outdoor flower beds.  Training is available to help you be better informed about the Depot and the Museum so that you can provide visitors with an educational experience.  Depending on volunteers’ area of interest help is needed with database input for collections, research for local history or artifacts, assisting with exhibits – research, labeling, arranging, etc.  There are also opportunities to assist with special events. 

Location: The Restored Depot and WWII Veteran’s Museum (305 South Second St., Red, Iowa, IA)

Duties – Greeter and Tour Guide:

·       Attending training for specific areas of interest.

·       Greet and engage with visitors, answering questions and encouraging discussion.

·       Lead guided tours of the museum, sharing knowledge about exhibits and the history of Red Oak.

·       Assist staff with archival research and cataloging historical materials.

·       Compile information for exhibits and educational programs.

·       Promote Restored Burlington Northern RR Depot/WW II Museum throughout the community.

Duties – Special Events:

·       Assist in planning and executing museum events.

·       Support event setup, registration, and logistics on the day of the event.

The RSVP MakerSpace Classroom Volunteer will provide hands-on project assistance and companionship to elementary students in grades K-8.

Program description: At our school, MakerSpace takes on a unique and meaningful approach. Rather than following the traditional model, our K–8 students come together in multi-age groups to explore hands-on spaces that inspire lifelong hobbies, trades, and passions. Each space is designed to connect real-world skills with classroom learning, fostering creativity, collaboration, and critical thinking.  For example, students in the Cooking and Baking Space put their math and literacy skills into action — measuring ingredients, working with fractions, and following recipes — all while experiencing the joy of creating something delicious from scratch.

Volunteers play a vital role in our MakerSpace program. They help nurture curiosity and perseverance by guiding students through projects, encouraging problem-solving, and sharing their own interests and expertise. Our goal is to cultivate a love of learning that extends far beyond the classroom and lasts a lifetime.

Duties:

●      Interact with students in grades K-8 and be a welcoming adult face

●      Provide help with MakerSpace projects as needed.

●      Protect the privacy and confidentiality of students and their families

Skills required:

●      Must be 55 years of age or older.

●      Relate well to staff, volunteers and infants and work with a team approach.

●      Willingness to support students in their academic work.

●      Must successfully pass an RSVP background check.

Time:    Volunteers will work a 2 hour shift every Friday at 10:00 am.

About P4K's Book Buddy Program: Twice a month, Book Buddies reinforce the importance of school attendance and reading at home and school. Volunteers read a book with students, and P4K provides each student with a copy of a book to build their at-home library.

What Book Buddies Do: Book Buddies read with a small group of 3rd or 4th grade students, encouraging students to practice their own reading skills. They volunteer for 30 minutes, in two classrooms. Books are centered on a theme, and topics include goal-setting, gratitude, friendship, colleges and careers. All materials are provided in advance to the volunteer prior to the visit.

By supplementing museum staff without receiving direct remuneration, volunteers enable the Museum & Aquarium to expand our services to the public, to further research and develop operations, and to project and maintain our positive image in the community.

The Blacksmith/Maintenance/Skilled volunteer (Boat Shop) is located in the boat shop or blacksmith shop in the Mississippi River Discovery Center. This is a group of volunteers that get together on Thursday mornings to help with electrical, woodworking, blacksmithing, building, and repairing projects for the Museum & Aquarium. If you like to work with your hands, have a skill that you would like to utilize or have wanting to learn a skill, this is the position for you!

Blacksmith/Maintenance/Skilled volunteers are needed 2 days a week (days may change) currently each Thursday morning but we are looking at adding skilled volunteers on Saturdays and Sundays, once trained. (The Museum & Aquarium requires at least 10 hours per year to remain an active volunteer). The Quad Cities VITA Coalition is spearheaded by United Way Quad Cities and in collaboration with AARP provides free income tax return preparation for taxpayers earning up to $67,000 annually.  

VITA helps working families take advantage of all eligible tax credits for free.  Volunteers from the community are needed to help prepare basic, current year tax returns for eligible taxpayers free of charge.  

Volunteers will be required to complete a training and certification to help.  In addition to tax preparers, volunteers are needed for intake and review.

Please note: Most tax preparation sites will run weeknights and some Saturdays

Mary's Inn Maternity Home is in need of drivers to take a mom to work. This includes dropping two children off at daycare.  If you are an early bird, pick up at the house at 6:30 a.m.  If you aren't an early bird, we also need someone to pick her up from work at 3:30 p.m. Schedule changes weekly.  Please reach out if you could help us help a young mother who is making a better life for her children. 

Youth thrive on quality time - movies, restaurants, trips to the Science Center. Outings like these provide opportunities for mentors to make a difference in a child's life. Whether discussing important life decisions or just having fun together, mentors help youth become their best. Quality time cannot be purchased, only shared, so we look to volunteers like you! 

Training for volunteers will help you learn to think like a mentor. Process includes application, background check, proof of car insurance and a valid driver's license.

Our Vigil volunteers are dedicated individuals who provide emotional support and companionship to patients and their families in their final days of life.  They sit bedside, offering comfort through conversation, prayer, music or simply just being present.

Our compassion visits are all about meeting the patient where they are at.  Visits can be anything from holding a patient's hand, reading to the patient, talking with the patient to watching TV, listening to music and playing games.

The office assistant will support office personal through administrative and clerical functions.  An office assistant may help by answering the phone, filing, making copies, data entry, making admission packets and helping with mailings.

The Snow Angels Program is a volunteer-based snow shoveling program where elderly (60+) Moline residents or residents with a physical disability get paired with a volunteer to get assistance removing snow and ice from the sidewalk adjacent to their property (boulevard only, not sidewalks to their door nor driveways). The program is intended for use by residents who do not have other resources, such as a neighbor, family, or friends, or who cannot hire a service. The program's goal is to ensure pedestrians and kids walking to school are safe during the winter months.

The Regional Nurse Leader (RNL) is a front-line leader of the Nursing Network who partners with the local Regional Volunteer Services Officer (RVSO) to recruit health professional volunteers per regional needs. The RNL provides guidance on nursing and health matters and helps build the health professional network in the region. RNLs promote volunteer engagement and satisfaction across the business lines and work to achieve the Volunteer Services Chief Nurse Initiatives. The American Red Cross National Nursing Network is comprised of all Red Cross nurses. Nursing Network leaders recruit and support nurses and other health professionals across all business lines to implement strategic goals of the American Red Cross as articulated in the Chief Nurse Initiatives. The American Red Cross is divided into geographic divisions, regions and chapters for service delivery. Each division has a Division Nurse Leader (DNL) appointed by the Chief Nurse and the Director of the Nursing Network. DNLs appoint Associate Division Nurse Leaders (ADNLs) to support RNLs and to assist them according to the division's unique needs.

Responsibilities

* Proactively support and guide Red Cross units in volunteer recruitment, reception, retention, and recognition to build health professional capacity across all business lines and at all levels of the organization in support of organizational and regional priorities. Assist units in volunteer recruitment to reflect community demographics.

* Act as a resource for nursing and health in the region across all business lines, working collaboratively with Nursing Network leaders and others to achieve the Chief Nurse Initiatives.

* Establish a good working relationship with key leaders at the regional level (e.g., Emergency Services Director, CEO, nurse/health leaders in other business lines).

* Establish relationships with community partners (nurses and non-nurses) and maintain updated roster

* Coordinate meetings for regional nurses and other health professionals, engaging colleagues and partners as appropriate in support of the Chief Nurse Initiatives.

* Regularly communicate nursing and health-related successes (e.g., awards, media coverage, projects) to other Nursing Network leaders and through other communication venues

* Ensure that nurse volunteers enter their nurse-specific information in Volunteer Connection and submit all volunteer hours

* Submit all RNL hours in Volunteer Connection on at least a monthly basis and maintain an updated Volunteer Connection profile

* Complete quarterly metrics and annual Nursing & Health Leaders Diversity Survey.

* Recruit and support Nursing Network Engagement Specialists as needed.

RNLs should recruit for and mentor their own replacements in consultation with RVSOs and DNLs.

The Recovery Services Client Care Program allows the Red Cross to rapidly meet disaster-caused needs by enabling clients to apply and receive financial assistance and/or community resources.

The Client Care Program Service Associate supports the recovery of disaster affected individuals, households, and communities by providing referrals, advocacy, and financial assistance through RC Care (case management system).

Responsibilities:

Conduct Intake by interviewing the client and opening a case in RC Care
Provide Financial Assistance to qualified clients.
Conduct Follow-up and Recovery Planning Services
Provide Internal Referrals
Provide Community Referrals
Assist with problem-solving and advocacy on request
Use RC Care to document services according to the Client Care Program Standards and Procedures

Free online training will be provided. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required.

Most of the 60,000 emergencies that the Red Cross responds to each year are smaller disasters like home fires. Disaster Health Services Team: During large disasters, you can use your professional skills as a licensed healthcare provider to deliver hands on care and education to shelter residents. Free online training will be provided and can count towards nursing continuing education units. If the need arises, volunteers are asked to commit to multiple local shifts of 4-12 hours each. For those able to travel outside of their local area, a commitment of at least 10-14 consecutive days, working 8- or 12-hour shifts is required. Qualified licenses include RN, LPN, LVN, EMT, Paramedic, MD, DO, PA, NP, APRN. Only RNs have full scope of practice.

Volunteers — or “Snow Heroes” — who would like to help shovel snow from public sidewalks for Cedar Rapids residents in need this winter. Snow Hero volunteers can sign up on the City of Cedar Rapids website at www.CityofCR.com/SnowBuddies. Heroes must be at least 18 years old and provide their own snow-removal equipment. 

Snow Heroes will be paired with eligible residents in need - based on factors such as location and availability. Snow Heroes will not be allowed to solicit or accept money, tips or gifts for their volunteer activities. Can't commit to the whole winter season but want to help keep our sidewalks safe and clear? Backup Snow Buddies are needed as well! 

Help advocates and staff members with tabling events and outreach volunteer opportunities in the community! Are you available one day a week? Are you wanting to make the difference in the healing process of a sexual assault survivor? Become an advocate for sexual assault survivors today! Flexible hours for on-call shifts and respond in-person to area hospitals and law enforcement centers, provide support and resources to survivors of sexual assault. Available shifts are 5pm until 8am the next morning Monday-Friday, on Saturdays and Sundays shifts are from 8am until 8am the following day, and occasionally, 8am-5pm Monday through Friday.

Many families and individuals in our community struggle daily to secure enough food to eat. The Coralville Community Food Pantry (CCFP) works to address this issue by offering weekly food assistance to anyone in Coralville who needs it. Volunteers guiding members through the pantry, checking members in. Volunteers are encouraged to sign up for two pantry shifts a month, but no minimum or maximum is required.

Meals on Wheels serves our community by preparing and delivering hot, nutritious meals to clients each weekday. Volunteers play a vital role in helping us meet this mission—and we couldn’t do it without you!

Available Kitchen Opportunities:

Ingredient Preparation — 7:30/8:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m.
Assist with washing, chopping, and preparing ingredients for the day’s meals.

Assembly Line Assistance — 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Work alongside staff and fellow volunteers to assemble hot, nutritious meals.

Meal Packaging
Help package approximately 600 meals per day with a dedicated, friendly team.

Route Organization — Monday through Friday
Assist in organizing and staging meals for delivery to our clients.

Congregate Meals (Brownstone Café) — 9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Support our community dining program by serving meals and engaging with guests.

Each of these roles offers the chance to work with a supportive team while making a meaningful difference in the lives of those we serve.

Join us in delivering “more than just a meal.” As a Meals on Wheels volunteer driver, you’ll provide nutritious food, a friendly visit, a safety check—and the reassurance that someone cares. Your time helps seniors remain safe and independent in their own homes.

Our dedicated volunteers deliver more than 1,000 meals each weekday across the metro area. Drivers pick up meals around 10:45 a.m. from various pick-up sites, and each route takes about one hour to complete.

Flexible Opportunities:
Our routes are both family-friendly and business-friendly. You can deliver once a week, once a month, or as your schedule allows—we’ll work with you to find a fit that works best.

Volunteer Requirements:

A current driver’s license

Your own vehicle and proof of auto insurance

Completion of a background check prior to delivering

Youth are welcome to accompany an adult driver!
