Are you looking for a rewarding opportunity to help youth in the Cedar Valley?  The Job Foundation is a Financial Stewardship Mentoring Program that equips K – 12 students and their families for economic advancement.  We have 80 kids in our program waiting to be matched with a mentor....is it you?!

We are looking for volunteers who are passionate about building relationships that nurture education so that children can learn tools and skills for financial freedom and success. Our vision is "All people achieving financial success".  The minimum requirement is only 4 hours per month.  

The main goal in mentoring is to build a positive, healthy, connection that encourages and develops higher self-esteem in children which can help them achieve success in many ways.  Mentors develop a unique bond and encourage young lives.

For the benefit of students (and volunteers), all The Job Foundation mentors undergo an initial screening, orientation and training, and then receive ongoing volunteer training.  We ask for an 12-month commitment for Mentors as we recognize the need for consistency and trust for children and families. There will also be a required DMV check and a background check. The ability to provide transportation is a requirement. There are also local activities and discounts provided to the matches for fun activities in the area!

Our Recycling Committee is made up of independent residents who help keep our recycling room organized and ready for pickup by our recycling vendor, and they always welcome extra help!

This is a very flexible volunteer opportunity. You may come once a week or up to three times a week — whatever fits your schedule. Each organizing shift takes about 30 minutes.

Volunteers also have the opportunity to suggest and help implement ideas to keep the recycling room clean, orderly, and running smoothly.

Volunteer Clinic Escorts help defend a person's right to choose and access vital services, education, and information as well as protect patients' physical safety and mental well-being. Escorts provide a protective barrier for patients and visitors entering the clinic, help keep the driveways and entrances clear for traffic safety, and maintain awareness of suspicious activity. Your main purpose as an Escort is to ensure that patients and visitors gain access to the clinic with the least amount of harassment, stress, confusion, and trauma as possible.

Community Inclusion Club (CIC) is a non-profit that was created to provide/ facilitate socially inclusive opportunities for adults with Intellectual Disabilities (ID) living in and around the Iowa City community. We do this by hosting events at least once a month at various locations where people with and without ID meet, mingle and get to know one another. Ideally, this will result in people forming friendships, and in turn those friends will meet and communicate with one another outside of our scheduled event times. We realize that people with ID often lack opportunities to interact with their non-disabled peers in the community, and this club was founded to change all that.

The Community Inclusion Club (CIC) continues its efforts to support Unified Sports and will be sponsoring softball this spring and summer. Our practices will be held at Napoleon Park softball diamonds beginning in May of 2026 with the regional tournament being held on July 25 in Cedar Rapids and the state tournament being held on August 1st in Grimes. Unified Sports pairs people with intellectual disabilities (ID) (referred to as athletes) and their non-disabled peers (referred to as partners) on the same team. Last year we fielded four teams and we anticipate fielding four teams again this summer. CIC is always looking for partners and for people willing to coach. Coaching involves being at and helping to direct practices and accompanying the team to tournaments (2) and being a partner involves attending as many practices as possible (1 time per week) during the spring and committing to playing in the tournaments in July and August. Each Friday in Assisted Living, we host a happy hour as a way for the residents to get together and socialize and enjoy each others company. As a happy hour helper, you can help invite residents to the activity, walk down with them, and help serve refreshments, while engaging in one on one and group interactions.

The position consists of driving our company van to Riverbend Food Bank to pick up our weekly food order, load and unload. Pick up time is 9-9:15, so we suggest arriving at the Corps around 8:45 a.m. 

Momentum Art Studio Volunteer

Purpose

Support the day-to-day operations of Momentum Art Studio by helping maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming environment for artists. Momentum Art Studio operates within Mainframe Studios and serves dozens of artists each week. As a studio volunteer, you’ll provide an extra set of hands to help the studio run smoothly while fostering a safe, supportive, and inclusive space for creative expression. While basic art knowledge can be helpful, it is not required. What matters most is a willingness to support others, create a welcoming environment, and assist the Program Coordinator as needed.

Volunteers are expected to be adaptable and responsive to shifting studio needs, helping wherever support is most useful on a given day. Experience working with individuals with disabilities or mental health conditions is a plus. Compassion, patience, reliability, and a warm, respectful approach are essential.

This is an ongoing volunteer opportunity requiring approximately 2 hours per week or per month, depending on availability. Consistency is key. The studio is open Wednesday–Friday, 10:00 AM–4:00 PM, and volunteer schedules will be coordinated with staff based on availability and studio needs.

Follow all health and safety protocols provided by staff.Be mindful of artists’ physical and emotional well-being and alert staff to any concerns.Help ensure the studio remains clean, organized, and free from hazards.

There is a lot going on at the Fab Lab at all times. One of the largest challenges is the sheer number of things to do and maintain at the Fab Lab. Our Champions program is the way that people with specialized skills can use their knowledge and training to help benefit everyone in the community! Champions teach beginners classes, upkeep/maintain equipment, participate in our events, and answer the hard questions our members come up with. They also get a say in what new equipment we need, what supplies to order, and how to design the different areas! 

Right now we need Champions for several areas, including Laser cutting, 3D printing, software/computer lab, wood shop, stained glass, jewelry, screen printing, Artistic outreach, Tufting, leatherworking, sign making/papercrafts, general maintenance, website, outreach, and CNC machining.  

Champions are expected to volunteer a few hours a week to maintain and check up on their areas, and can request other volunteers when needed to keep things running smoothly. The beginner classes are anywhere from once every 3 months for a few hours, to once a month for a few hours. 

This is a great way to add to a resume for those students who have an interest in making! Whether the interest is in your field of study or not, showing that you care enough to volunteer regularly and have hobbies and interests outside of work is a powerful multiplier in todays job market.

United Way of the Midlands offers a Court Referral Community Service Program (CRCSP) participants are required to check in with the CRCSP Manager before completing any community service hours.

Volunteers play a vital role in supporting our hospice team by helping keep our office running smoothly and efficiently. This behind‑the‑scenes service includes tasks such as answering phones, organizing admission materials, preparing mailings, assembling volunteer or bereavement packets, and assisting with special projects. Volunteers in this role bring strong communication skills, reliability, and a collaborative spirit. With training and ongoing support, Administrative Volunteers contribute to compassionate hospice care by ensuring our staff and families receive timely, organized, and thoughtful assistance.

TITLE 

Administrative Volunteer

REPORTS TO

Volunteer Coordinator (VC)/Manager of Volunteer Services (MVS)

DESCRIPTION

The Administrative Volunteer provides support to office personnel through clerical and administrative

functions.  An administrative volunteer may assist with answering telephones, filing, making copies, data

entry or helping to create admission packets.  An Administrative Volunteer might help with compiling

and mailing Bereavement letters, sympathy cards or the planning of the Annual Memorial Service. 

QUALIFICATIONS

The Administrative Volunteer must possess strong communication skills, must be dependable, self

directed, and flexible and have the ability to work effectively as a member of a team. He/ she must have

an understanding of Hospice Services and be willing to participate in peer support/ continuing education

meetings.  Additionally, he/ she must: 

1. Be at least 16 years of age

2. Provide the following paperwork, co-signed by a parent/ guardian if under the age of 18:

           a. Completed Volunteer Application

           b. 2 References

           c. Code of Conduct Attestation Statement 

           d. Signed Permission for Background Check

           e. Signed Permission for Drug Screen

3. Have satisfactory references from employers and/ or professional peers 

4. Have a satisfactory criminal background check (as required by state)

5. Successfully complete the Administrative Volunteer orientation

RESPONSBILITIES 

1. Assist with assigned tasks, such as, but not limited to:

          a. Answering telephone calls, taking messages, transferring calls, or making calls for                staff members

          b. Organizing and compiling admission packets

          c. Copying and filing

          d. Sending, receiving, and distributing faxes

          e. Assembling Volunteer Orientation manuals and in-service packets

2. Participate in Volunteer support or peer groups and/ or training with other Volunteers to the extent necessary to comply with the training requirements imposed by federal Medicare regulations

3. Provide availability and/ or keep up with the assigned task to support office personnel

4. Maintain regular communication with the Volunteer Coordinator/Manager of Volunteer Services about any changes or concerns regarding current assignment

5. Function within authorized activities according to the individual’s ability, knowledge, and training.  Does not assume tasks or decisions which are outside the scope of the Volunteer or are within the domain of other persons, i.e. hospice clinical or office personnel 

6. Document and record hours of service on the Administrative Volunteer Activity Log

7. Maintain confidentiality and abide by federal regulations related to privacy practices, e.g. HIPAA

8. Assure compliance with local, state, and federal laws, Medicare regulations, and established

personnel policies and procedures 

9. Meet or exceed delivery of Company Service Standards and operate under the company’s Code

of Conduct

10. Be evaluated annually based on competency and performance by the Volunteer Coordinator/

Manager of Volunteer Services

11. Participate in continuing education and training, including mandatory annual in-services (HIPAA,

Emergency Preparedness, Ethics, etc.)

The Science Center of Iowa (SCI) is seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help deliver positive and engaging customer experiences for our guests. In this role, you’ll serve as a friendly and knowledgeable source of information—greeting visitors at the door, guiding them through the check-in and ticketing process, and answering questions about SCI’s programs, exhibits, and events. Volunteers will assist guests throughout the building by providing directions, helping with lost children, and ensuring a welcoming atmosphere for all. You’ll also bring our interactive exhibits to life by demonstrating how they work, offering insights, and sparking curiosity through questions and conversation. Additional opportunities include assisting school groups with exhibit interpretation and activity sheets and encouraging all visitors to participate in our daily programs. During the growing season (May-October), join the Iowa Valley RC&D Farm staff in the field on a Monday and Friday from 9-Noon (weather permitting) to help tend over 4 acres of vegetable crops at the Iowa Valley RC&D Grow: Johnson County Farm. Volunteers will help cultivate, tend, harvest, and pack vegetables grown on the farm and send them on their way to local hunger-relief agencies.

Our after-school and summer academic programs for students in grades K-5 help build character, promote healthy exercise options, and provide student-driven educational enrichment opportunities to help students become well-rounded. The academic enrichment opportunities may include but are not limited to the following areas: art, culture, science, technology, logic, movement, sports, and outdoor activities.

 Volunteers can volunteer for 1.5 to 2 hours, one to five days a week. Engaging and connecting with the students is the volunteers' primary role! :)

Calls can take place 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. You can establish a regular call schedule with your matched clients on a 1x/week, 2x/month, or 1x/month basis. Calls last anywhere from 15 to 30 minutes.

The Meals on Wheels Hydroponic Farm is a 3,000 square foot indoor farm capable of producing 20,000 pounds of leafy greens a year. Our farm provides some of our most at risk populations in the metro a source of fresh, healthy greens year-round. We also provide greens to other WesleyLife and local communities.

Every weekday, Wesley Life Meals on Wheels prepares and delivers nearly 2,000 hot, nutritious lunches to homebound older adults, veterans, and people living with disabilities. In 2025, WesleyLife Meals on Wheels delivered 416,764 hot meals to older adults, veterans, and people living with physical and mental disabilities. PARTICIPATE AS A SALES COORDINATOR

Engage in saving lives from cancer by selling potted mum plants within your company/organization, neighborhood, family and friends. There are five great products to promote, a 4 inch potted mum ($12), a 6 inch potted mum ($20), a Gift of Hope mum ($25) or Cancer Care Package ($25) to be delivered cancer patients at Des Moines area cancer centers and a Gift of Gratitude mum ($25) to be delivered to healthcare workers to be delivered to cancer patients at Des Moines area hospitals. We will provide you with all the materials you need in order to be a successful sales coordinator!

We are recruiting sales coordinators to help us promote the campaign and collect orders both in person and online in late July/early August, turn in your orders and then deliver the 4 and 6 inch potted mums to those who purchased towards the end of August.  We will take care of delivering the Gift of Hope and Gift of Gratitude mums to the local cancer centers for you and those who purchased them.

As a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA), you have the power to change a child’s story. CASA volunteers stand alongside children who have experienced abuse or neglect, ensuring their voices are heard in the courtroom and their best interests are at the heart of every decision.

You’ll build a trusting relationship with a child, gather insights from caregivers and professionals, and provide recommendations to the judge that help secure a safe, permanent home. The Museum Store Clerk supplies merchandise information to the customer and handles sales of store merchandise Responsibilities: ? Assist customers in the Museum Store ? Direct visitors to merchandise and assist them in line ? Keep the store clean and hazard free ? Tag and restock merchandise as directed ? Keep up with product knowledge and current merchandise | The Museum Store Clerk needs to be able to interact with the shopping public, complete a sales slip according to prescribed procedure, use a charge card machine, count back change, and package merchandise. Packaging with Meals from the Heartland!

Volunteers play a hands-on role in the fight against hunger by working together to assemble nutritious meals during a two-hour shift. You’ll work alongside fellow volunteers and our staff at stations to fill, weigh, seal, and box meals. Each packager helps create about 540 meals- enough to feed two children for a full year! This impactful work supports Meals from the Heartland’s mission to fight hunger both locally and globally. Together in 2026, we’re aiming to assemble 23.3 million meals, and your time and teamwork help make that goal possible.

Before You Arrive:

Please arrive about 10 minutes early for check in and orientation.

Closed-toed shoes and comfortable, casual clothing are recommended. 

Long hair should be tied back- hairnets and beard nets will be provided. 

Please remove jewelry before packaging to help maintain the integrity of the meals, this helps ensure items don’t get lost and keeps food safe for the families we serve.

Celebrate your team, corporate or branded apparel is encouraged. 

Bring your energy and teamwork, we’ll guide you through the process from start to finish

Des Moines Art Center

The Des Moines Art Center hosts a variety of free, public-facing events throughout the year — from family days and community celebrations to hands-on art activities and performances. These events are designed to welcome visitors of all ages and backgrounds and to make the museum feel accessible, creative, and alive.

We’re looking for event-based volunteers who want to support these experiences on an occasional basis, without a long-term or weekly commitment.

Event volunteers play an important role in creating a warm, organized, and welcoming environment for visitors. Depending on the event and your interests, volunteers may:

Greet and orient visitors as they arrive

Assist with hands-on art activities (no art experience required)

Support storytimes, performances, or interactive programs

Help visitors navigate the building and event schedule

Encourage participation and answer basic questions

Assist with light setup or cleanup before or after events

Volunteers always work alongside staff and are given clear instructions and support.

Event-based: volunteer for one event or multiple events, as your schedule allows

Typical shifts range from 2–4 hours, often on weekends

No ongoing or weekly commitment required

This role is ideal for people who want flexibility, are new to volunteering, or prefer short-term opportunities.
