At Ronald McDonald House Charities of Central Iowa, we proudly serve families from Iowa, across the U.S., and around the world. Our pantry provides meals, sweet treats, snacks, toiletries, and other essentials for these families during their stay-and we would greatly appreciate your support!

We are excited to announce the new Boys Town National Research Hospital Volunteer Program! With the goal of empowering our community and its members through service, this program will create meaningful opportunities for volunteers to contribute their time, skills and passion to make a positive impact on our patients and families.

 

The Volunteer Program offers a variety of options to fit the skills of both teens and adults. Some of the tasks may include:

 

Greeting and escorting patients Serving as an internal courier or runner for clinic staff Engaging patients in waiting room with interactive activities Making rounds with the activity cart (coloring, books, crafts) or coffee cart Providing clerical support Reading to patients Taking patients on wagon rides Cleaning toys

 

Volunteer Requirements

 

Must be at least 16 years of age and able to transport themselves or acquire transportation to Boys Town National Research Hospital at 139th and Pacific Street Volunteer a minimum of two hours each week, with a total of eight hours a month If needed, exceptions can be made for special circumstances (vacations, illness, etc.) Volunteers between the ages of 16 and 18 are asked to make an initial commitment of 6 months and volunteers over 19 are asked to make an initial commitment of 1 year

Volunteering at the DMARC-Ket Food Pantry is just like helping a friend shop for groceries! As a food pantry volunteer, you will assist visitors in selecting their food items after they have gone through the intake process.

Help visitors choose food items and bag items. Carry items to visitors’ car or other modes of transportation as needed. Assisting Food Pantry Manager with miscellaneous tasks as needed. Volunteering at the DMARC-Ket Food Pantry is just like helping a friend shop for groceries! As a food pantry volunteer, you will assist visitors in selecting their food items after they have gone through the intake process.

Help visitors choose food items and bag items. Carry items to visitors’ car or other modes of transportation as needed. Assisting Food Pantry Manager with miscellaneous tasks as needed. Read and comply with any posted daily directives from the Food Pantry Manager regarding the handling of any special food products such as produce or frozen food. Utilize safe food-handling and food storage practices.

We're looking for a few talented and conscientious volunteer board members to lead and strengthen our programs for individuals with disabilities, both visible and invisible that will allow them to achieve greater independence. We're especially looking for folks with accounting or legal experience, with disability or gerontology backgrounds, from the diverse communities, or who are on the younger side of the community.
