Are you a retiree or stay-at-home parent with a few hours a day and you'd like to get involved with an International known and respected organization?

We have just the opportunity for you at The American Red Cross regional chapter office in Des Moines, Iowa! 

Our Directors of First Impressions answer phone calls, direct visitors to meetings and assist with light clerical projects. We have 2 shifts available each day Monday-Friday and ask that you be willing to volunteer for at least two shifts a week.

AM Shift: 8:00 AM - Noon

PM Shift: 12:30 PM - 4:30 PM

Provide on-call support to American Red Cross disaster respondents in the field. Open client cases using Client Assistance Software (CAS), load client assistance cards and provide technical assistance to in-field respondents.

This volunteer position requires that some online training be completed before volunteer placement.

 

*This is a virtual position that can be done from anywhere in the state of Iowa

 

Every day The American Red Cross responds to approximately 190 house fires across the country. Because of volunteers like you, we are able to respond to the devastation a house fire can bring within 2 hours of receiving the call that a family is in need.

We are actively recruiting for volunteers who want to be part of our Disaster Action Teams (DAT) in Iowa. DAT members respond to local disasters within 2 hours of notification and assist those affected in securing emergency information and meeting immediate needs. DAT members complete paperwork and report accurate data. DAT members may provide referrals to other agencies to satisfy unmet client needs.

Key Responsibilities:

 

Works with Volunteer Services to recruit current volunteers for new opportunities and leadership positions Equips departments with tools they need to make a pitch for volunteering when they are out in the community talking about the Red Cross Manages research, planning and execution of recruitment events

 

Qualifications:

 

Broad understanding of the American Red Cross and its opportunities for volunteer service. Enthusiastic about Red Cross mission and programs. Comfortable speaking to both large and small groups

 

Time Commitment:

• Variable; preferred commitment: 10-15 hours per month

From home fires to hurricanes, hundreds of Iowans give their time, talent and treasure to the Red Cross everyday providing care, comfort and compassion during times of disaster. As an Engagement Volunteer, you will help support, engage and recognize these hard working volunteers.

Key Responsibilities:

 

Follows up with volunteers and departments to ensure proper placement and job satisfaction. Serve as a resource for volunteer supervisors in all lines of service (Disaster Cycle Services, Biomedical, etc.) Serves as the point of contact for reassignment or referring volunteers to other departments Connects supervisors of volunteers to Volunteer Services HR relations

 

Qualifications:

 

Knowledge and understanding of Red Cross services and operations and opportunities for volunteer service Work well both individually and with others Relevant, complementary management and/or technical skills/operational experience Relationship building skills working collaboratively with staff partners as well as board members, senior management, and other volunteer partners as needed Understand the value of volunteers and provide leadership and support to ensure volunteers are productive and have a mutually rewarding experience

 

Time Commitment:

• Variable; Approximately 10 hours per month, working remotely and on-site.
