Who We Are
Mission: To invite all to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith, repentance, baptism, and receiving the Holy Ghost.
The Des Moines Stake of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a local congregation within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church), which is one of the largest and most recognized Christian denominations in the world. The LDS Church, founded in the early 19th century by Joseph Smith, emphasizes the restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ and the belief in living prophets and apostles. Congregations of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are organized into specific geographic areas called “stakes.” The first permanent congregation of Latter-day Saints in Des Moines was established in 1954. As membership grew and more congregations were added, the Des Moines Stake was created in 1970. The Des Moines Stake comprises nine different congregations, with three of them centered in Des Moines and two in Ankeny. The others serve members living in or near Indianola, Knoxville, Oskaloosa, and Newton.
The Des Moines congregation, like others, is committed to helping individuals and families find spiritual strength, community, and guidance in their daily lives by following the teachings of Jesus Christ.
