Who We Are
The primary purpose of the Hitchcock House Advisory Board is the preservation & perpetuation of the Hitchcock House National Historical site at Lewis, Iowa, and the education of the public concerning the role this site played in the Underground Railroad used by runaway slaves before and during the Civil War.
What We Do
We are a living history museum, a National Historic Landmark & site on the Underground Railroad. The Hitchcock House was built in 1856 to help freedom seekers get to freedom in the north.
