Description

The Advocacy Specialist will play a crucial role in advancing our advocacy efforts, raising awareness about transgender rights, and promoting policies that support the needs of transgender individuals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Policy Research: Conduct research on local, national, and international policies affecting the transgender community, including healthcare access, legal rights, employment discrimination, and social services.
  • Advocacy Campaigns: Develop and implement advocacy campaigns to promote transgender rights and raise awareness about issues facing transgender individuals. This may include organizing petitions, letter-writing campaigns, and community outreach initiatives.
  • Coalition Building: Collaborate with other organizations, advocacy groups, and community leaders to build coalitions and support collective advocacy efforts on behalf of the transgender community.
  • Legislative Advocacy: Monitor legislative developments related to transgender rights and work to influence policymakers through advocacy meetings, public hearings, and legislative advocacy strategies.
  • Public Education: Develop educational materials and resources to increase understanding and awareness of transgender issues among the general public, policymakers, and other stakeholders.
  • Media Engagement: Work with the communications team to contribute to media outreach efforts, including writing press releases, op-eds, and articles on transgender rights and advocacy.
  • Community Engagement: Engage with transgender individuals and community organizations to understand their needs, concerns, and priorities, and ensure that advocacy efforts are responsive to community voices.

Qualifications:

  • Passion for social justice and a commitment to advancing transgender rights and equality
  • Strong understanding of issues affecting the transgender community, including healthcare access, legal rights, employment discrimination, and social stigma
  • Excellent research, writing, and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a remote team environment
  • Experience in advocacy, community organizing, or related fields is preferred but not required
