Summary:  Are you ready to show off your GREEN THUMB?  Volunteers aged 55 or better are needed to help maintain the library’s community garden.  We need your advice on our garden bed and your help to educate our patrons through garden-themed programs.

 

Duties:  Volunteers would help library staff with the following responsibilities:

·      Prepare, plant, water, weed, and harvest the garden bed from May to September

·      Share passion and knowledge of gardening with Library staff and the community.

·      Assist with garden-themed programs for children and other patrons, January to December.

·      Learn about gardening and develop related skills.

·      Attend occasional information and planning meetings with library staff.

 

Audience & Benefits:  The community garden serves library patrons of all ages.  Helping patrons develop their knowledge and love of gardening increases their food security and improves their health.  It also helps to meet the library’s mission to fully enhance learning experiences for all patrons.

 

Required Skills:  Bring your love of gardening and your energy to share that with others.  Volunteers must be age 55+.

 

Reports To:  Scheduling will be provided by the Volunteer Manager with direct supervision by librarians.

 

Volunteer Schedule – Volunteer coverage is needed 2-3 days per week for 1-2 hours.  You are asked to sign up at a minimum of 1 day each week for 1-2 hours, but feel free to sign up for more!  The library is open 6 days per week so days can be set to meet your schedule.
