The RSVP Youth Reading volunteer will provide reading help and companionship to elementary students.
Program description
Reading is a critical skill for life. To help students achieve their full potential with reading skills, the RSVP Youth Reading Program is asking for volunteers to aid in small reading groups. Volunteers will be asked to follow teachers’ detailed instructions with a small group of students and engage in reading activities.
Duties:
● Interact with elementary students and be a welcoming adult face.
● Provide help with reading as needed.
● Protect the privacy and confidentiality of students and their families.
Skills required:
● Must be 55 years of age or better.
● Relate well to staff, volunteers and children, and work with a team approach.
● Willingness to support students in their academic work.
● Must successfully pass a background check.
Amount of Time: 1–2-hour weekly shifts – we will work with your schedule.
Time of Day: As scheduled during school hours, Monday through Friday.
Supervisor: Supervision is provided by the Classroom Teacher.
