RSVP meal delivery volunteers are the heart and soul of home-delivered meals programs and touch the lives of homebound residents and those with disabilities with food and friendship. Your smile may be the only one they see all day! You may volunteer once a week, once a month, or whenever your schedule permits.
Full description: RSVP meal delivery volunteers deliver meals and smiles to home-bound individuals. You will be assisting participants meet up to 2/3 of their daily nutritional needs, provide a safety check on their wellbeing, and help them remain living independently in their home. You may sign up for as many or as few days and times as you like. Opportunities are available in Page County serving Shenandoah and Essex.
Duties:
· Deliver meals on a designated route between 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., (Monday through Friday), except for Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays and days local schools are closed due to weather.
· Report directly to the Head Cook or designee who will work to develop a schedule. This position will have regular communication with the IDA RSVP Volunteer Coordinator to ensure that both the clients and volunteers are receiving the assistance they need.
· Substitute Drivers deliver meals on a designated route on short notice when regular Route Drivers are unavailable. Although every consideration is made to give at least one day’s notice, drivers may be contacted on the day they are needed.
· Check in with the Head Cook or designee and review daily route sheet and note changes before and after each shift.
· Load meal containers into vehicles and deliver meals to clients listed on route sheet.
· Note and report any significant observations regarding clientele.
· Return “Hot Boxes” at the end of each shift or the beginning of the next day’s shift.
· Report the date, hours served and mileage for each day and the # of individuals served using the RSVP Timesheet in the pickup-drop-off area.
· Interact with clients receiving meals and work with other hospital staff and volunteers to ensure that clients are receiving the assistance they need.
· Assist with annual client survey as requested.
Skills required:
· Must be 55 years of age or older.
· Willingness to use personal vehicle and maintain vehicle insurance, providing a copy to hospital staff for their records.
· Positive attitude and willingness to share smiles with clients.
· Ability to encourage others to practice self-advocacy.
· Successfully complete a SING background check with RSVP Coordinator.
· Maintain a valid Driver’s License – providing a copy to hospital staff for their records.
· Ability to follow written and oral instructions. Ability to read road maps or use GPS; knowledge of the area is a definite plus!
· Ability to lift 25 lbs. (weight of “hot box” when full).
· Ability to work cooperatively with staff and volunteers.

· Time of Day: 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., weekdays only
· Location: Shenandoah Medical Center at 300 Pershing Ave., Shenandoah, IA
