Position Summary

The Activity Volunteer supports the Montgomery County Family YMCA by helping staff deliver safe, engaging, and mission‑driven programs for youth, families, and community members. This role enhances the quality of YMCA activities by providing hands‑on assistance, positive interaction, and a welcoming presence for participants.  Bring your smile!

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with program activities such as youth sports, arts and crafts, fitness classes, after‑school programs, special events, or family nights.
  • Coach/Referee for youth and adult sports activities.
  • Engage participants in a friendly, encouraging, and inclusive manner that reflects YMCA values.
  • Help set up and clean-up program spaces, equipment, and materials before and after activities.
  • Support staff by monitoring participant safety, answering basic questions, and guiding individuals to appropriate areas.
  • Model YMCA core values of Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility in all interactions.
  • Report concerns (behavioral, safety, or facility‑related) to YMCA staff promptly.
  • Maintain a positive environment that promotes belonging and community.

Qualifications

  • Enthusiasm for working with people of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and interact positively with youth and families.
  • Dependability and willingness to follow YMCA policies and staff direction.
  • Must complete required volunteer paperwork, background check, and orientation.
  • Must be age 55+ for the Retired & Senior Volunteer Program
  • Prior experience with youth programs, recreation, or customer service is helpful but not required.

Time Commitment

  • Flexible scheduling based on program needs.
  • Volunteers may serve during after‑school hours, evenings, weekends, or special events.

Supervision
