Description

The RSVP Youth Reading & Math Buddy will provide reading help and companionship to elementary students.

 

Program description

Reading and Math are critical skills for life. To help students in grades K-6 achieve their full potential with these skills, the RSVP Youth Reading & Math Buddy will work with students one to one or in small reading and math groups. Volunteers will be asked to follow teachers’ detailed instructions with students and engage in reading and math activities which may include listening to students read or playing math games.

 

Duties:

      Interact with elementary students and be a welcoming adult face.

      Provide help with reading or math as needed.

      Protect the privacy and confidentiality of students and their families.

 

Skills required:

      Must be 55 years of age or better.

      Relate well to staff, volunteers and children, and work with a team approach.

      Willingness to support students in their academic work.

      Must successfully pass a background check.

 

Amount of Time:    1–2-hour weekly shifts – we will work with your schedule.

 

Time of Day: As scheduled during school hours, Monday through Friday.

 

Supervisor:  Supervision is provided by the Classroom Teacher.
